The Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) is implementing a pilot initiative to integrate nutrition-sensitive principles into youth and adolescent programming. This initiative combines vocational training, life skills education, and youth-led food production, with a particular focus on developing nutritious snack products by young people.
To support this effort, LOST is seeking to recruit a highly experienced Senior Consultant in Nutrition to lead the design, technical review, and delivery of two tailored training packages (vocational and life skills). The consultant will also provide technical support and strategic guidance to youth participants throughout the snack development process, ensuring that products meet nutritional standards, uphold food safety requirements, and promote sustainable, small-scale food production.
Scope of Work:
The consultant will be responsible for the following key tasks:
1. Development of Two Training Packages
- Review, adapt, and enhance the existing vocational training package to include content on nutrition-sensitive food systems.
- Integrate key nutrition messages and adolescent health topics into the Life Skills Training Package.
- Design interactive, youth-friendly training modules that focus on nutrition, food safety, sustainable production, and ethical marketing practices, applying a child-rights-based approach.
- Develop detailed session plans, facilitator guides, and supporting materials for both training packages.
2. Delivery of Trainings
- Deliver a two-day Technical Vocational Training on nutrition-sensitive food systems for selected youth alumni and CBT trainers.
- Conduct a training session for Life Skills trainers.
- Prepare two post-training reports summarizing training outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations for improvement.
3. Technical Support to Youth-led Snack Production
- Guide youth in the selection, formulation, and testing of nutritious snack products suitable for children and adolescents.
- Ensure that the proposed products meet nutritional standards.
- Support the development of child-friendly packaging and nutrition labeling, aligned with food safety regulations and child-focused marketing principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the review, adaptation, and development of two training packages (vocational and life skills) focused on nutrition-sensitive food systems, adolescent nutrition, and sustainable food practices.
- Guide youth in the formulation, testing, and refinement of nutritious snack products, ensuring alignment with dietary standards and cultural relevance.
- Support youth in developing standardized recipes, session plans, and production process documentation in accordance with national food safety guidelines.
- Provide technical oversight and quality assurance during pilot production runs, ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
- Assist in the design of safe, compliant, and child-appropriate packaging and nutrition labeling.
- Offer market insights and product positioning guidance to strengthen the impact and reach of youth-led food ventures.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, or a related discipline (PhD is an asset)
- At least 7-10 years of professional experience in food product development, nutrition, or food technology, and vocational training.
- Strong knowledge of nutrition-sensitive food systems, sustainable food production, child and adolescent nutrition, and ethical marketing.
- Demonstrated success in developing and scaling food products (e.g., energy bars or similar items)
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards, packaging, labeling, and shelf-life requirements
- Experience in training, mentoring, and building the capacity of small producers or food startups
- Excellent communication, coordination, and reporting skills
- Fluency in Arabic and English.
