Storytelling Editor

The Storytelling Editor will undertake the following tasks:

  • Story Collection and Development (in collaboration with Social Worker):
    • Work closely with the project's social worker to understand the context of the individual and group sessions and the "16 Days of Activism" initiative.
    • Review and analyze raw interview transcripts and notes (provided by the social worker, ensuring all necessary consent has been obtained).
    • Identify key themes, powerful anecdotes, and impactful quotes for narrative development.
    • Develop and draft 10 compelling narrative stories, focusing on individual experiences of violence and gender discrimination within the prison setting. Each story should aim to convey resilience and a human-centered perspective.
    • Edit and proofread all narrative stories for clarity, accuracy, coherence, grammar, spelling, and consistency in tone and style.
    • Ensure all content is culturally sensitive, non-stigmatizing, and adheres to the highest ethical standards, particularly concerning trauma-informed storytelling and protection of vulnerable individuals.
    • Incorporate feedback from the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders to refine content.

Application Submission Guidelines
  1. Work Plan: Detailing the timeline for story development ( the stories must be finalized by the end of September 2025)
  2. 10 Draft Narrative Stories: "The Stories of Female Prisoners Inside Prison" (rolling submission as per agreed schedule).
  3. 10 Final Narrative Stories: Edited and approved for publication (as per agreed schedule).

4. Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Journalism, Communications, Creative Writing, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Proven professional experience in storytelling, journalism, content editing, or narrative development, particularly with a focus on human rights, social justice, or vulnerable populations.
• Demonstrated experience in sensitive storytelling, ideally involving individuals who have experienced trauma or marginalization.
• Understanding of gender-based violence (GBV) issues and sensitivity in reporting on such topics.
• Familiarity with ethical guidelines for interviewing and portraying vulnerable populations.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
5. Ethical Considerations:
The Storytelling Editor must adhere to the highest ethical standards, including:
• Do No Harm: Prioritizing the safety, dignity, and well-being of the individuals whose stories are being told.
• Confidentiality and Anonymity: Protecting identities as agreed upon with participants.
• Non-Sensationalism: Avoiding exploitative or sensationalized portrayals of violence or suffering.
• Trauma-Informed Approach: Recognizing and responding to the potential impact of storytelling on individuals who have experienced trauma.
