Nutrition and/or Food Processing Consultant with Business Expertise

Scope of work:

  1. Action Plan: Before activities begin, SI will hold a coordination meeting with the consultant to align expectations, define desired outcomes, and agree on the timeline. The consultant will then prepare a comprehensive Action Plan detailing the agreed upon implementation approach, assessment methodology, timeframe, and expected deliverables. This document will serve as the guiding framework for the assignment's execution.
  2. Participant Profile Assessment: Conduct surveys or focus group discussions with selected nutrition promoters and women head of household to assess their educational background, knowledge of nutrition, food safety, household management, budgeting, food planning, technical and interpersonal skills, nutritional gaps in nutritional lifestyle, capacity-building needs, and areas for further development.
  3. Curriculum and Training Material Development: Based on the insights gathered during the assessment phase, the consultant will be responsible for designing two culturally appropriate and technically sound training curriculums tailored to the objectives of the project and the profile of the targeted participants. One curriculum will be developed for 200 women- headed household and the other for nutrition community promoters. Both curriculums should reflect the socio-economic realities and dietary habits common among Lebanese communities, especially within rural and vulnerable households in the target areas. The content should build on participants’ existing knowledge while introducing advanced nutrition concepts in an accessible and practical manner.

All training materials must be developed as PowerPoint files, in Arabic and english, incorporating visual aids and interactive tools tailored for adult learners, particularly in low-literacy settings. The consultant is expected to employ participatory methodologies to foster peer learning, encourage knowledge retention, and support the practical application of concepts in everyday life.

  1. Deliver Nutrition and Household Management Training Session
The consultancy will involve the development and delivery of two distinct training programs: each tailored to specific target groups and objectives:

  • Training 1: Advanced Nutrition for Community Promoters (TOT)

This training will be designed for 20 to 30 Participants. The consultant will develop a structured curriculum focused on enhancing participants’ technical knowledge in advanced nutrition. The objective is to strengthen their capacity to provide community-based nutrition counseling and to refer cases of malnutrition to SI through the existing Feedback and Complaint Response Mechanism (FCRM).

Training 2: Household Management and Food Practices for Women-Headed Households
This program will target approximately 200 women, particularly those heading households. The consultant will develop and deliver a practical training curriculum aimed at improving household-level food security and resource management. Topics will include but are not limited to food safety and storage practices, meal planning, budgeting, resource management, food waste reduction, and effective household management. The consultant will also design and deliver a dedicated training session for SI staff. This session will cover both curricula developed under Training 1 and Training 2. The objective is to build the internal capacity of SI staff by familiarizing them with the training content, key topics, delivery guidelines, instructional tools, training materials, games, and methodologies. The approach will include practical demonstrations, hands-on activities, and guidance on how to support training roll-out and follow-up

  1. Leading and Coaching advanced nutrition sessions: After the Training for SI staff, the consultant will provide continued support through leading, shadowing, coaching and follow-up during the sessions delivered by SI staff using the tailored curriculum provided by the consultant, ensuring quality, reinforcing learning, and offering real-time feedback to improve facilitation effectiveness.
  2. In both training courses, the consultant will be responsible for developing contextually relevant and culturally appropriate training materials. SI staff will be oriented on the content to ensure consistent understanding and alignment with program objectives. Their capacity will be enhanced through shadowing and on-the-job training, enabling them to support implementation and reinforce learning outcomes. However, SI staff will not be responsible for delivering the sessions themselves.
