Project Assistant

TEAM PURPOSE: Oxfam in Lebanon works at local, national, and international levels to improve the protection of civilian population in situation of insecurity and displacement. The protection assistant will contribute to Oxfam’s overall efforts to bring about improvements to the safety of civilian populations in Lebanon, as well as local and national change in the protection framework.

JOB PURPOSE: To gather and document data around protection concerns and threats and contribute to analyses on trends and needs of returnees and individuals affected by the war in BML and South Lebanon. To support returnees to safely access useful, reliable, and accurate information as well as adequate services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Cross-Sectoral Support – Protection, Cash, MEAL, CFW, WASH)

  • Conduct field-level activities across the South programme, supporting the implementation and monitoring of interventions related to Protection, Cash, Cash for Work (CFW), WASH, and MEAL.
  • Collect high-quality data through direct observation, community consultations, focus group discussions (FGDs), and key informant interviews, in line with Oxfam’s tools and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain regular communication with community members and focal points, ensuring ongoing support and participation throughout all stages of the programme cycle.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in field assessments, including needs assessments, baseline surveys, and post-distribution monitoring (PDM).
  • Support the planning and facilitation of outreach and awareness sessions across sectors.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation, reporting, and filing of field data and activities..
  • Monitor programme activities in the South and provide timely updates and reports to the relevant sector teams.
  • Ensure compliance with Oxfam’s safeguarding, protection, and data confidentiality policies at all times.
  • Maintain a weekly work plan in coordination with relevant project teams and contribute to joint planning and review meetings.
  • Provide support to other teams and sectors as needed to ensure integrated and safe programming.

Sector-Specific Responsibilities

  Protection

  • Conduct protection monitoring activities and gather information on protection concerns, risks, and needs affecting the communities.
  • Identify individuals at risk and respond appropriately, including through Psychological First Aid (PFA), referrals, and protection cash assistance where applicable.
  • Support the development and regular update of referral pathways and service mappings.
  • Contribute to the delivery of protection-related awareness sessions and key topics such as GBV, and safe referrals.
  • Report any protection concerns to the Protection Officer and/or Safeguarding Focal Point in a timely and confidential manner.

WaSH

  • Support the WASH team in planning and conducting outreach activities, including hygiene promotion sessions and behavior change communication in target areas.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating the distribution of hygiene kits and other related items.
  • Participate in water quality assessments, infrastructure monitoring, and site visits.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of sanitation facilities and handwashing stations in informal settlements, shelters, and public institutions.

Cash & Cash-for-Work (CFW)

  • Assist the cash team in beneficiary follow-ups, eligibility verification, and the dissemination of key information.
  • Assist in organizing coordination meetings with financial service providers and community groups.
  • Enter and verify beneficiary data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Support grievance mechanisms, ensuring timely referral and resolution of community feedback and complaints.

MEAL

  • In coordination with the MEAL Senior Officer, contribute to monthly reporting on beneficiary numbers and activity progress across sectors.
  • Support the collection of monitoring data using digital tools and standardized forms.
  • Conduct FGDs, key informant interviews, and other qualitative data collection as requested.
  • Ensure the regular use and update of feedback mechanisms and tools in collaboration with the MEAL Senior Officer.

Actively participate in field assessments, including needs assessments, baseline surveys, and post-distribution monitoring (PDM).
