Driver

CONTEXT

Founded in 1994, La Chaîne de L’espoir (CDE) is an international non-governmental organization headquartered in Paris, France. Its mission is to strengthen healthcare systems and ensure equal access to quality healthcare for children, providing opportunities for survival and development.

CDE has been active in Lebanon since 2005, providing support on a punctual project. In response to growing needs and to scale up its efforts, CDE officially established its permanent mission and opened an office in Lebanon in 2020.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Driver plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the mission’s logistical and transportation needs. Under the supervision of the Logistics and Security Officer, the Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of staff, as well as the regular maintenance and cleanliness of the organization's vehicles.

In addition to driving duties, the Driver also supports the logistics department in carrying out day-to-day operational tasks. This includes assisting with deliveries, managing stock movements, supporting office and equipment maintenance, and facilitating administrative procedures within the mission and government institutions and external service providers when required.

The position is part of the Support Department and contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of operations in Lebanon, in line with La Chaîne de L’espoir policies and procedures.

 

Main Responsibilities

Driving and Fleet:

  • Drive CDE vehicles of various types (e.g., 5-seater, 12-seater) safely and responsibly, strictly adhering to Lebanese traffic laws and CDE’s internal driving procedures. Always adjust driving behavior based on road and weather conditions, ensuring the safety of passengers, goods, and equipment.
  • Perform periodic vehicle checks to ensure safe operation (oil level, radiator, fan belt, brake fluid, tires, wipers, lights, signals, etc.).
  • Ensure that all required vehicle tools and emergency equipment are available, functional, and securely stored (e.g., spare wheel, jack, belts, ropes).
  • Ensure all vehicle-related documents are valid and renewed before their expiration (insurance, liability waivers, etc.).
  • Safeguard all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, and spares.
  • Report any technical issues or need for maintenance to the Logistics and Security Officer and ensure that all vehicles are maintained in good working condition and always kept clean (interior and exterior).
  • Accurately complete vehicle logbooks before and after each trip and contribute to the monthly log reports.
  • Follow all CDE security regulations and ensure timely reporting of all vehicle movements.
  • Immediately report any accidents, incidents, or security concerns to the line manager and HoM.

 Other tasks:

  • Assist in conducting periodic physical inventory checks.
  • Assistant in tagging and assigning assets to staff members.
  • Assist in ensuring all assets and office equipment are in good working condition; report any issues and arrange necessary repairs. Identify and report maintenance issues (plumbing, electrical, etc.) and coordinate follow-up with technicians or service providers.
  • Assist in keeping common areas (reception, meeting rooms, kitchen) clean, organized, and functional.
  • Assist with the reception, storage, and dispatch of goods and materials.
  • Assist in monitoring stock levels of stored items, and alert the team when replenishment is needed.
  • Any other tasks as requested by the Line Manager.

Profile

Working Experience and Professional Qualifications

  • Valid public driving license (Required).
  • High school degree. (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within international organizations (Preferred).
  • Spoken and written Arabic (Required).
  • Basic English or French (Required).

Specific Skills

  • Excellent driving skills and knowledge of road safety regulations. (Required).
  • Skills in minor vehicle and office repair (Desirable).
  • Have good communication skills and strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Able to work flexible hours.

 

Languages:

Arabic: Essential.

English and/or French: Basic (Required).
