Sewing Coach

A Sewing Coach is responsible for teaching and training individuals in the art and technique of sewing. This role involves developing curriculum, instructing beneficiaries, assessing their progress, and providing hands-on demonstrations. The trainer ensures that beneficiaries gain the skills necessary to produce quality sewn products and understand the fundamentals of sewing machinery and materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop comprehensive sewing training programs tailored to various skill levels, from beginners to advanced.
  • Prepare instructional materials, lesson plans, and visual aids to enhance learning.
  • Conduct sewing classes and workshops, providing step-by-step instructions and demonstrations.
  • Teach beneficiaries how to use sewing machines and tools safely and effectively.
  • Provide guidance on selecting appropriate fabrics, patterns, and techniques for different projects.
  • Evaluate beneficiaries progress through assessments, practical tests, and project reviews.
  • Provide constructive feedback and personalized instruction to help beneficiaries improve their skills.
  • Demonstrate various sewing techniques, such as hemming, stitching, embroidery, and garment construction.
  • Guide beneficiaries through hands-on projects, ensuring they understand and apply the techniques taught.
  • Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Manage classroom dynamics and ensure students adhere to safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized training space.
  • Keep records of student attendance, progress, and grades.
  • Prepare reports on training outcomes and suggest improvements for future sessions.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in operating and maintaining various types of sewing machines.
  • In-depth knowledge of sewing techniques, fabric types, and garment construction.
  • Ability to create and adjust patterns.

Teaching Skills:

  • Strong instructional and communication skills.
  • Ability to break down complex techniques into easy-to-understand steps.
  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; a degree in fashion design, textiles, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in sewing or tailoring is advantageous.
  • Previous experience as a sewing instructor or in a similar role.
  • Portfolio of completed sewing projects.
  • This role typically operates in a classroom or workshop setting.
  • May require standing for extended periods .
  • Flexible working hours may be needed, including evenings or weekends, depending on class schedules.
  • Patience and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Creativity and attention to detail.
