RRM Consortium Rapid Needs Assessment - Kadugli Locality, South Kordofan State. (June 2025)

Executive summary

This report is a summary of the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Al-Reef Al-Shragi Locality to Kadugli Locality, for the IDPs whom were displaced in May of this year of 2025 and currently residing in the Kadugli Stadium, They were displaced because of military clashes between the Armed Forces, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) in the Borno, Damik, and Tabah areas, which resulted in the displacement of approximately 450 households (2,700 individuals). The survey was conducted using the Rapid Needs Assessment (RNA) tool. Participant observations were also conducted at Kadugli Stadium sites during the assessment. Data was collected using the Kobo platform. During the assessment, all IDPs were informed verbally of the purpose of the assessment and the use of the collected data to ensure they gave their informed consent before participating in the assessment. The assessment targeted IDPs living in Kadugli Stadium, and a total of 50 households from the Kadugli Stadium were interviewed during the assessment.

As the autumn season approaches, it is expected that there will be many risks that may arise due to the type of housing in the area, as it is expected that diarrhoea and malaria cases will be reported. Additionally, the difficulty of movement will also increase.

Key Findings:

  • Basic Needs: Nearly all (96%) of the IDPs interviewed indicated that they cannot meet their basic needs and are in dire need of assistance to live a dignified life.
  • Food Security: This was the top priority for the affected population in all locations. Food was identified as a priority, with 74% of interviewees indicating that food was their most pressing need. This is particularly concerning given the dire food security situation in Kadugli, where IDPs rely solely on humanitarian assistance, mobile kitchens, and grants.
  • Shelter and Non-Food Items: The survey results reveal that shelter is a major need for the affected population, with 78% of the surveyed population indicating that shelter is a priority. This is due to the fact that affected households have fled their areas of origin and are currently residing in overcrowded gathering sites. In addition, due to the nature of the conflict, people fled without carrying any non-food items, creating an urgent need for basic household supplies.
  • Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: IDPs are in dire need of water and sanitation services. Latrines are insufficient, with 64% of those in gathering sites reporting that they lack sufficient water for daily use, despite being nearly full and in need of evacuation. Additionally, there is a dire need for personal hygiene supplies in gathering sites to enable people, especially women, to live a dignified life.
  • Nutrition: In parallel with the food security situation, there is a dire need for nutrition services targeting children under the age of five. This is evidenced by the fact that 74% of households surveyed reported having a malnourished child in their home.
  • Health: IDPs are in dire need of health promotion in the area, as malaria and malnutrition are prevalent in the region.
