Participatory Action Research

Oxfam is seeking to recruit a consultant to support the design and implementation of a participatory action research led by women and/or youth-led organizations or movements under the Power to Choose project. This research aims to address critical gaps in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights by empowering young people and women to generate evidence and advocate for change through a feminist approach.

Interested candidates are invited to submit an Expression Of Interest (EOI) that includes:
1.A CV for the consultant/company
2.A maximum 2-page document outlining SRHR and gender justice work (along with an explanation of the purpose of the work, who the contracting authority was)
3.A short document outlining the proposed methodology and workplan
4.A sample report
5.A one-page budget of the offer, covering all major anticipated costs (see section timeline and expected number of days above on what costs should be included in the offer

Oxfam is a global movement of people, working together to end the injustice of poverty through campaigning and responding to the needs of the poor. Oxfam has been working in Lebanon since 1993. Oxfam provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people affected by conflict, and Oxfam promotes economic justice and good governance, and women’s rights. Oxfam also works with local partners to contribute to the protection and empowerment of marginalized women and men. Oxfam in Lebanon is implementing a 5-year, Global Affairs Canada (GAC) funded project titled “Power to Choose – Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights through (1) Increased agency of young women and adolescent girls contributing to their equitable use of sexual and reproductive health services, (2) improved provision of gender responsive, inclusive and accountable sexual and reproductive health services by health care providers for diverse groups of young women and adolescent girls, and (3) improved effectiveness of key stakeholders, particularly women and youth organizations or movements, to advocate for evidence-based health care policies, accountable legal framework, and equitable and inclusive services.

 

Submit an inception report outlining the approach, timeline, and proposed tools.
•Design and facilitate capacity-building workshops on feminist youth-led research methodologies and data collection techniques.
•Lead research ideation sessions with the selected women and/or youth-led organizations or movements to identify key SRHR gaps and co- develop research plans with the youth
•Provide continuous mentorship and technical guidance to the selected women and/or youth-led organizations or movements throughout the research process, including data collection and analysis.
•Co-organize and facilitate a validation workshop with the selected women and/or youth-led organizations or movements researchers and relevant SRHR stakeholders to review findings.
•Support the selected women and/or youth-led organizations or movements in analyzing the collected data and organizing key findings in preparation for reporting.
•Assist in consolidating and drafting the final research report following the data collection led by the selected women and/or youth-led organization researchers, in close collaboration with them throughout the process.
•Support youth and women-led organizations in leading a dissemination event to present their research findings. Assist them in drafting a policy paper based on the report’s key recommendations, ensuring their voices and priorities are at the center of the process.
•The consultant is expected to respond to two rounds of feedback by Oxfam on each of the data collection tools and each of the reports and briefs.

The company/ individual(s) should have the following competencies:
Essential

Prior experience in research, SRHR, advocacy, or gender equality work, particularly in the fields of SRHR in Lebanon

Proven Knowledge of participatory and feminist research methods

Experience in delivering trainings and workshops

Excellent communications skills in English and Arabic

A familiarity with the feminist principles.

Flexibility and ability to take initiative

Availability to start immediately
