Finance Director

About nafda:
nafda is a grassroots movement transforming education in Lebanon by placing schools and communities at the heart of social change. nafda’s mission is to mobilize school communities by anchoring our core values of: Engaged Citizenship, Good Governance and Social Justice in response to Lebanon’s deepening crises.


The work is based on 3 main pillars:

  • Transforming Learning Experiences: We facilitate connections between schools, their communities and each other and promote collaboration to identify needs and implement projects → for students to gain access to the tools and skills necessary as 21st-century learners and agents of social change.
  • Embedding Core Values: We develop tools and initiatives that foster active citizenship and influence communities → to strengthen social cohesion between schools, their surrounding communities, and local actors.
  • Facilitating Networking Opportunities for Knowledge Sharing & Advocacy: We encourage peer-to-peer collaboration among principals and creating spaces for knowledge sharing → to strengthen the supportive network of principals and inform recommendations for policies based on grassroots insights.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping:

  • Record and maintain all financial transactions.
  • Prepare payments in accordance with fund availability and ensure all supporting documents and payment proofs are collected and archived.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, petty cash, and suppliers.

2. Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare and submit donor-specific financial reports according to each grant agreement.
  • Prepare monthly budget vs actual comparative reports per project.
  • Support the Grants team in developing project budgets and proposals.
  • Develop and monitor the organization’s annual master budget.
  • Track and report cash flow projections per project.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports, forecasts, and analysis for decision-making.
  • Ensure all grant-related financial terms are respected in line with donor requirements.

3. Payroll, Taxation & Audit Coordination:

  • Process monthly payroll, pay slips, and timesheet tracking for employees and consultants.
  • Calculate and declare Social Security (NSSF) and Tax on Salary contributions.
  • Support the annual financial audit process and the preparation of statutory financial statements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and support timely submission of yearly declarations.

4. Financial Policy & Compliance:

  • Regularly review and update nafda’s financial management policies and procedures.
  • Support drafting of new financial and procurement policies as needed.
  • Ensure accounting documentation is complete and aligned with audit requirements.
  • Maintain regular communication with banking institutions, ensuring proper handling of accounts and transactions.
  • Monitor updates to financial regulations in Lebanon and assess implications for nafda operations.

5. Administration & Filing:

  • Oversee proper filing and digital archiving of all accounting and financial documentation.
  • Follow up with Admin Officer on the inventory register and asset tracking.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the NGO sector.
  • Proven experience in accounting, donor budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with Lebanese tax and labor law.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic; French is a plus.
  • High ethical standards and attention to detail.
