Archaeologist (Ref. REVEAL/SER01/Arch/25)

Farah Social Foundation partner of Insubria University, Istituto Oikos, ISPC-CNR, Al Shouf Cedar Society, Lebanese University and APEL, in the project REVEAL (AID 012993/01/0, CUP J13C25000170001): Research and Valorization of the landscapE and Archaeological heritage of the Upper - Shouf as an asset for the protection and deveLopment of the territory, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, AICS, is hiring an Archeologist to support the multidisciplinary team in the daily excavation work and study of the findings in the Qalaat El-Hosn site in Maasser El-Shouf.

The Archaeologist will collaborate in carrying out survey, excavation, documentation, analysis, and conservation of archaeological finds and contexts, in compliance with the applicable regulations and the directives of the Directorate General of Antiquities and the Scientific Director. In addtion ,he/she will support the recording and cataloguing of finds both on site and in the storage facility, ensuring their proper conservation, labelling, and entry into the registers in accordance with the scientific standards established by the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide operational support to the excavation team during fieldwork at the Qalaat el-Hosn archaeological site, including stratigraphic excavation and recording of in situ features and finds.
  2. Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, local authorities, researchers, volunteers, visitors, and other team members.
  3. When requested, accompany researchers, trainers, students, volunteers, and visitors, and provide approved introductory information about the site.
  4. Attend training workshops as required by the Scientific Director and the Directorate General of Antiquities of Lebanon (DGA).
  5. Record and catalogue finds both on-site and in the storage facility, ensuring proper conservation, labeling, and registration in accordance with the project's scientific standards.
  6. Ensure correct use, maintenance, and storage of excavation tools, monitoring equipment, and any field gear.
  7. Promptly report any damage or malfunctions of tools or equipment to the Scientific Director to avoid disruption of fieldwork.
  8. Carry out excavation tasks as assigned by the supervisory team.
  9. Act with integrity, diligence, and a spirit of cooperation toward all team members, and fully comply with Farah Social Foundation’s Code of Ethics, Code of Conduct, and the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy.

Qualification:

  1. We are seeking highly motivated Archaeologist and Senior Archaeologist candidates with strong multitasking abilities and the following qualifications:
  2. Proven experience in the excavation, documentation, and analysis of stratigraphic archaeological contexts.
  3. Participation in international archaeological missions.
  4. Good knowledge of the Upper Shouf landscape and its archaeological sites.
  5. Proficiency in handling archaeological materials, processing field data, and drafting scientific reports.
  6. Strong skills in cartography and the use of GIS software, particularly QGIS.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially in engaging with project stakeholders such as local communities, authorities, researchers, students, volunteers, and visitors.
  8. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  9. Very good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  10. Previous work or volunteer experience at the Qalaat el-Hosn archaeological site (Maasser el-Shouf) is considered an asset.
