UTOPIA Association is a community-based organization operating in North Lebanon since 2012. We work to foster holistic well-being, inclusion, protection, and resilience through community-driven approaches. Under the WPHF-funded project, UTOPIA is expanding access to sexual and reproductive health (SRHR) and mental health services for women, girls, and vulnerable individuals in underserved areas.
Purpose of the Role
The Social Worker will play a frontline role in facilitating SRHR and mental health awareness, conducting Rapid Needs Assessments (RNAs), providing psychosocial support, and coordinating service delivery for beneficiaries. The role involves both fixed-site work at Abjad Socio-Cultural Center and participation in mobile unit deployments to remote and underserved communities.
Key Result Areas and Outputs to be achieved by the role:
Awareness and Outreach
- Facilitate SRH and mental health awareness activities at Abjad Socio-Cultural Center and through the mobile unit in underserved areas (Tripoli, Minieh-Dennieh, Koura).
- Ensure that sessions integrate participatory and culturally sensitive methods to encourage dialogue and reduce stigma.
Beneficiary Assessment and Case Identification
- Conduct Rapid Needs Assessments (RNAs) to identify individuals at risk or in need of SRHR/mental health services.
- Ensure proper documentation, confidentiality, and timely follow-up on all identified cases.
Service Coordination and Delivery
- Coordinate with specialists (psychiatrist, gynecologist, midwife) to ensure beneficiaries receive appropriate services.
- Manage the appointment system between beneficiaries and specialists, ensuring accessibility and clear communication.
- Organize the schedule of PSS groups, including venue reservation, beneficiary outreach, and coordination with specialists.
Direct Service Provision
- Conduct Community-Based Psychosocial Support (CBPSS) sessions tailored to different age and gender groups.
- Provide one-on-one psychosocial support and referrals to specialized services as required.
Coordination and Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with stakeholders in different project locations (municipalities, CSOs, community leaders) to facilitate safe and effective outreach.
- Collaborate with other service providers for referrals and joint activities, ensuring integrated support for beneficiaries.
- Liaise with the MEAL team to ensure proper data collection, beneficiary feedback, and accountability to affected populations.
- Work with the procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely provision of materials, supplies, and venues needed for service delivery and group sessions.
Capacity Building and Learning
- Actively participate in all project-related meetings, training and capacity-building activities to strengthen skills in SRHR, mental health, and protection service delivery.
- Contribute to peer-learning sessions with fellow staff and partners.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Conduct baseline and endline assessments with beneficiaries to track progress and outcomes.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, including both quantitative and narrative components, highlighting challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations for improvement.
Other Duties
- Perform any other tasks as requested by the Protection Manager or Senior Protection Officer in line with project needs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field is required.
- A Master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, or related discipline is an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2–3 years of professional experience in social work, protection, mental health, psychosocial support (PSS), or related humanitarian fields.
- Proven experience in conducting community-based psychosocial support (CBPSS) sessions, awareness-raising activities, and direct beneficiary engagement.
- Previous experience in SRHR, GBV prevention, or mental health programming in humanitarian or development settings is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups (women, girls, men, boys, PWDs, refugees, host community) in culturally sensitive contexts.
- Experience coordinating with stakeholders, service providers, MEAL, procurement, and logistics teams within NGO or humanitarian frameworks.
- Strong background in case identification, needs assessments, and referrals.
- Prior experience in working within community centers or mobile/outreach modalities is an advantage.
Language: Proficiency in English and Arabic (writing, speaking, reading).
