The project “Change the Playing Field – Resilient Against Disinformation” aims to empower Syrian CSOs and journalists to strengthen the resilience of media users against disinformation.
DW Akademie is looking for experienced trainers to conduct an online training for multipliers on how to use the newly developed Arabic-language toolkit designed to counter disinformation in Syria. The training will target Syrian civil society organizations (CSOs) and journalists, with a particular focus on youth and women. The toolkit includes practical strategies, exercises, and guidance on Media and Information Literacy (MIL), fact-checking, and gender-based violence (GBV) in the context of disinformation.
Terms of Reference (ToR)
1. Objective
To conduct a 7-day online training (end of October or early November 2025) that:
- Equips Syrian CSO workers and journalists with the skills to use the toolkit effectively.
- Enables multipliers to facilitate workshops and community-based sessions using the toolkit.
- Strengthens participants’ capacities in MIL, fact-checking, and GBV-related disinformation.
- The training focuses on countering disinformation and empowering participants to act as multipliers who pass on their knowledge.
2. Scope of Work
- Design and deliver a 7-day online training based on the toolkit content.
- Provide practical exercises, interactive sessions, and facilitation techniques.
- Support participants in adapting the toolkit to their local contexts.
- Collaborate with DW Akademie’s project team and integrate feedback.
- Prepare a short training report summarizing outcomes and recommendations.
3. Trainer Profile
DW Akademie is seeking qualified trainers with the following profile:
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in training delivery, preferably in online formats.
- Proven experience conducting Trainings in at least two of the following areas: Media and Information Literacy (MIL), fact-checking, or gender-based violence (GBV), Train of Trainers (ToT).
- Ability to train others to deliver workshops independently.
- Strong knowledge of the Syrian media and civil society landscape.
- experience working with Syrian journalists and civil society organizations (CSOs), including a strong understanding of their needs, challenges, and communication dynamics.
- Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written); working knowledge of English.
- Experience working in conflict-sensitive environments and with vulnerable groups.
- Experience in developing or using toolkits in training settings.
Desirable:
- Previous collaboration with DW Akademie or experience as a DW Akademie trainer.
- Familiarity with digital safety and ethical considerations in fragile contexts.
4. Deliverables
- Training agenda/matrix and materials tailored to the toolkit.
- Delivery of a 7-day online training session.
- Short training report (max. 3 pages) in English.
- Familiarization with the toolkit is a key selection criterion for trainers. The toolkit will be published at a later stage and will be available in Arabic.
5. Timeline
- Training dates: End of October or early November 2025.
