Job purpose:
The Retention Support Teacher will provide targeted academic and psychosocial support to help students stay engaged and succeed in their learning journey.
They will identify learners at risk of dropping out and design remedial and motivational activities to address their specific needs.
The position contributes to improving attendance, learning outcomes, and overall retention within the education program.
They will work closely with facilitators, parents, and the PSS team to ensure a holistic support approach for each learner.
Job responsibilities
Deliver tailored support sessions focusing on literacy, numeracy, and study skills for children at risk of dropout.
Monitor learners’ progress, attendance, and participation and report any concerns to the center focal point.
Engage parents and caregivers to promote the value of education and consistent school attendance.
Collaborate with teachers and facilitators to adapt teaching strategies that meet diverse learner needs.
Qualification and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or Social Sciences required.
At least 2 years of experience in teaching, remedial education, or learning support programs.
Experience working with vulnerable children or in humanitarian contexts is an asset.
Familiarity with inclusive education and child-centered methodologies is preferred.
Skills
Strong teaching and mentoring skills with a focus on individualized learning support.
Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities with children and caregivers.
Ability to identify learning difficulties and apply creative remedial approaches.
Good organizational, reporting, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Kobo, etc.).
