Social Worker - Baalbek

The School Social Worker is the Focal Point for Protection in the centre. S/he takes care of the psycho-social support for vulnerable groups in the centre. S/he reports and coordinates with the Project Manager and MHPSS Officer.

Main Responsibilities of the Position:

1. Protection Focal Point:

  • Undertake vulnerable students under case management.
  • Support the team in tasks related to all protection issues arising in the center and during outreach activities.

2. Case Management:

  • Provide basic emotional support to students under case management.
  • Refer cases to either psychotherapy, focused psychosocial support, or external service providers according to the need.
  • Follow-up consistently with cases (weekly, biweekly or monthly) and report on each follow-up in the case file.
  • Close cases in timely manner after successfully reducing the risk level or achieving the desired goals.

 3. Group interventions:

  • Conduct awareness sessions to all students and 50% of caregivers on 6 specific topics determined by the Country Office, and following a clear schedule that is in harmony with the academic schedule of the students.
  • Support teachers in Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions and monitor students’ pre-post-tests.
  • Facilitate focus group discussions for needs assessment as well as monitoring and evaluation purposes.

 4. Communication and Programming:

  • Cultivate and facilitate contact with local organizations related to the position, in close collaboration with the MHPSS Officer and Project Manager.
  • Keep track of valid and efficient referral pathways and service providers to increase accepted referrals.
  • Analyse the needs of refugees and suggest new initiatives to the MHPSS Officer and Project Manager.
  • Elaborate an action plan, together with the MHPSS Officer and the other Social Worker of the centre, resulting from a needs assessment.
  • Ensure prompt execution of other tasks which are within the ambit of the position which may be requested by the Project Manager or MHPSS Officer as needs occur.

5.  Administrative Tasks:

  • Update, regularly, case management trackers, referral forms, referral trackers, group intervention attendance sheets.
  • Collaborate closely with the education assistant as well as the psychologist to ensure swift service provision.
  • Respond in a timely manner to internal referrals made by teachers.
  • Attend meetings with teachers regarding students under case management as per the need.

Qualififcations, Skills, and Personal Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or any other related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in the humanitarian field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and team working skills.
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Highly approachable, trustworthy and maintain confidentiality.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required. English is required for reporting.
