IOM Syrian Arab Republic — Aleppo Governorate Snapshot (September 2025)

Following the rapid power shift in Damascus on 8 December 2024, the Syrian Arab Republic (hereinafter referred to as Syria) is undergoing a pivotal transformation, reshaping its humanitarian, political, demographic, and recovery landscape. This snapshot provides an insight into the population figures, movement dynamics, and trends of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), IDP returnees, and arrivals from abroad, in Aleppo Governorate. Aleppo serves as a key urban centre within Syria, hosting a fifth of the nation’s entire population. The population density, alongside the economic and cultural significance of the governorate, places Aleppo as a fundamental site for recovery in re-building Syria.
