Veterinarian (VET)/Agricultural Engineer (specialization in animal production)

LOST is seeking to recruit a Veterinarian (VET)/Agricultural Engineer (specialization in animal production)in Baalbeck to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing medical care to animals, including diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care. This role requires strong clinical skills, a deep understanding of animal health, and the ability to communicate effectively with pet owners and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Production Management:
Design, implement, and oversee efficient and sustainable animal production systems. Monitor livestock performance, optimize feeding programs, and ensure animal health and productivity through evidence-based management practices.

Animal Health and Welfare:
Collaborate with veterinarians to promote the humane treatment of animals. Develop and apply welfare standards, nutrition plans, and environmental management practices that enhance animal well-being and production efficiency.

Facility Design and Maintenance:
Plan, design, and maintain animal housing, feeding, and waste management systems. Ensure compliance with biosecurity, environmental, and safety regulations in all aspects of animal production.

Nutrition and Feed Optimization:
Formulate and evaluate animal feed rations based on nutritional requirements and production goals. Monitor feed quality, consumption, and conversion rates to maximize growth, reproduction, and overall performance.

Data Collection and Analysis:
Collect and analyze production data (e.g., growth rates, milk yield, feed conversion ratios, reproductive performance). Use data-driven insights to identify areas for improvement and increase operational efficiency.

Sustainability and Resource Management:
Implement environmentally friendly practices in animal production, including waste recycling, water conservation, and renewable energy use. Develop strategies to reduce environmental impact and enhance resource efficiency.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Ensure that production processes meet local and international standards for animal welfare, food safety, and environmental sustainability. Prepare documentation for audits and certification programs.

Research and Development:
Stay updated with advances in animal production technologies. Conduct or participate in research projects related to genetics, nutrition, breeding, or precision livestock farming to improve productivity and sustainability.

Training and Extension:
Educate and support farm workers, technicians, and animal caretakers in best practices for animal handling, feeding, hygiene, and production management. Provide technical guidance to farm owners and stakeholders.

Collaboration:
Work closely with veterinarians, nutritionists, and other agricultural specialists to ensure optimal animal performance and health. Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated production strategies.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Animal Production, Animal Science, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications or licenses in animal production or agricultural engineering are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in animal production, livestock management, or agricultural engineering.
  • Strong understanding of livestock nutrition, breeding, housing systems, and environmental management.
  • Familiarity with precision livestock farming tools and data analysis software.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially under production challenges or emergencies.
  • Commitment to sustainable agriculture and animal welfare principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with a variety of livestock species, such as cattle, sheep, poultry, or goats.
  • Specialized knowledge in areas such as animal nutrition, reproductive technology, or environmental control systems.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages, particularly English and Arabic.

Work Environment

  • The role typically involves working in farms, research stations, or agricultural enterprises, with direct exposure to livestock and production systems.
  • Fieldwork and travel may be required to monitor and evaluate multiple production sites.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including weekends or irregular shifts, may be necessary during peak production periods or emergencies.
