Under the overall supervision of the National Project Officer and the direct supervision of the Field Assistants, the Community Health Worker (CHW) will contribute to improving access to and continuity of essential health services for vulnerable populations. The CHW will play a key role in restoring and promoting positive health-seeking behaviors, strengthening linkages between communities and primary healthcare systems, and fostering community resilience to future health emergencies through health awareness, empowerment, and collaboration with local stakeholders.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Support the implementation of outreach activities to identify at risk individuals and households in need for health services.
- Promote health-seeking behavior and self-care practices within communities, supporting the gradual transition from emergency assistance to sustainable community-based health systems.
- Support the implementation of risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) activities to promote accurate health information and counter misinformation.
- mplement stigma reduction activities related to TB, HIV, and other communicable diseases, ensuring alignment with national public health messaging and community goals.
- Identify and refer individuals requiring medical, mental health, or psychosocial support to appropriate facilities or partner organizations.
- Participate in Community-Based Surveillance (CBS) by identifying and promptly reporting priority diseases, unusual health events, suspected outbreaks, or public health risks to support early detection and response.
- Participate in community-level interventions during public health emergencies and disease outbreaks (e.g., cholera, TB, HIV).
- Contribute to service mapping, identification of referral barriers, and support the linkage between community structures and primary healthcare facilities to enhance service continuity and resilience.
- Collaborate with community leaders, health partners, and local stakeholders to enhance program coordination.
- Collect and report community-level data to identify emerging health priorities, support data entry and timely reporting, and maintain organized and confidential records of outreach and referral activities.
- Participate in regular trainings and coordination meetings as needed.
- Ensure gender-sensitive, inclusive, and culturally appropriate approaches in all activities
- Perform any other duties assigned as requested by the programme team.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
High school diploma in health or any other field related to community work.
Experience:
- Previous volunteering experience with NGOs, preferably in health-related programs.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting community outreach, public health awareness campaigns, and health education activities, including data collection, beneficiary registration, and impact reporting.
- Strong understanding of the areas of operation and target populations, including migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host communities.
- Familiarity with referral networks, health information systems, and community feedback mechanisms is an advantage.
Skills:
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas
- Understanding of primary healthcare concepts, disease prevention, and health promotion strategies.
- Competent in collecting, recording, and reporting community-level data accurately and confidentially.
- Culturally Sensitive, respects local customs, beliefs, and traditions when engaging with communities.
- Teamwork and coordination, works effectively with field coordinators, healthcare providers, and partner organizations.
- Advocacy and empowerment, supports individuals and communities to access available health and social services.
- Conflict resolution handles sensitive situations professionally and promotes community harmony.
Languages:
For this position, fluency in English and Arabic are required (oral and written).
Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
