Midwife Supervisor

Accountabilities:

  • Supervising, supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in her team such as cleaners. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
  • Ensuring team work and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
  • Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity departments  and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
  • Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment
  • Ensuring  that all staff  using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed  according to the protocols, reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Being responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment
  • Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
  • In certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the Obs & Gyne MD and following the protocols

Context specific Accountabilites:

  • Provide clinical supervision, coaching and bedside mentorship to midwives working in PHCCs and MMU, ensuring safe, high-quality SRH care according to MSF/MOH protocols, values and universal hygiene standards.
  • Conduct regular targeted trainings on antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), postpartum danger signs, lactation support, family planning counselling and prevention/management of STIs.
  • Strengthen early detection, stabilization and timely referral pathways for obstetric and neonatal complications from PHCC/MMU to secondary care, ensuring referral criteria are understood and consistently applied.
  • Conduct routine supervision visits to PHCC and MMU activities to assess adherence to standard midwifery practices, provide immediate feedback, identify performance gaps and support implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate closely with GP, paediatrics and mental health teams to support comprehensive mother-and-child care, including psychosocial risk screening and onward referral when indicated.
  • Promote respectful maternal care practices, ensuring dignity, privacy, confidentiality and protection against stigma, particularly for adolescent clients, survivors of violence and persons with special needs.
  • Ensure consistent application of IPC measures within SRH consultations including proper hand hygiene, instrument handling, decontamination, environmental cleaning and safe disposal of medical waste.
  • Verify that staff using medical devices (Dopplers, baby scales, BP machines, etc.) have been trained, and ensure routine cleaning and basic maintenance according to protocol, while reporting device malfunction promptly to the biomedical focal point.
  • Support rational SRH commodity and medication management within PHCC/MMU activities including stock rotation, expiry monitoring, appropriate consumption tracking and timely reporting of shortages.
  • Contribute to accurate data collection related to ANC/PNC, refferal for deliveries supported by MMU/PHCC, family planning uptake and newborn outcomes, ensuring completeness of registers and reporting to PMR.
  • Strengthen sexual & reproductive health promotion messages delivered by PHCC\MMU teams, including healthy pregnancy behaviours, birth preparedness, breastfeeding, family planning and postpartum danger signs.
  • Review complicated cases, case management with Patient Safety Incident, or near-misses with GP teams, facilitating continuous learning, morbidity reviews and improvement plans.
  • Support identification, initial management and confidential referral for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), according to MSF protocols and in collaboration with appropriate medical and protection services.

 

   

Education

  • Recognized midwifery degree, diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Midwifery
  • Ministry of public health practice license as midwife in Lebanon
  • Certificate of registration at the Lebanese order of Midwifes

Experience

Minimum 2 year experience as Midwife

 

Knowledge

Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
