Reports To: Project Coordinator

Job Purpose : The Basketball Coach will plan, implement, and facilitate engaging basketball sessions for adolescent groups aged 13 to 17, aiming to develop their physical skills and adolescent attachment to sports, encourage teamwork, discipline, and increase adolescent understanding of their bodies and capability. The coach will also ensure a safe and inclusive environment while applying techniques suitable for this age group and aligning with NGO standards for youth activities.

Job Responsibilities:

Session Planning and Delivery

  • Design weekly basketball sessions tailored for 13–17-year-old adolescent participants.
  • Focus on developing basketball skills (dribbling, shooting, passing, defense) and general fitness.
  • Ensure activities are safe, age-appropriate, and engaging.
  • Apply safeguarding and protection approaches in the sessions
  • To link the life skills approaches provided in the girl’s empowerment project in the sports sessions.
  • Integrate life skills and psychosocial support elements into sports sessions, including teamwork, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and conflict resolution.

Adolescent Engagement & Development

  • Promote teamwork, fair play, discipline, and sportsmanship.
  • Promote self-confidence, strategic planning and communication.
  • Encourage participation and provide constructive feedback to adolescents.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that supports the well-being of all participants.
  • Remain alert to any child protection or psychosocial concerns, and promptly refer such cases to the supervisor or child protection focal point in accordance with referral pathways.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Keep attendance records and monitor adolescents
  • Report any issues, incidents, or achievements to the project officer and center

Resource Management

  • Ensure basketball equipment is maintained and used properly.
  • Suggest and manage any additional materials required for sessions.

Collaboration and Professional Conduct

  • Work closely with the education team and other coaches.
  • Uphold the NGO’s child protection and safeguarding policies.
  • Participate in team meetings and any required training.

KPIs:

1. Session Delivery – Conduct weekly basketball sessions on time, ensuring they are engaging and age-appropriate.
2. Student Development – Observe and support improvement in students’ basketball skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
3. Safety & Environment – Maintain a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environment during all sessions.
4. Reporting – Keep attendance records and provide brief updates on student progress and session outcomes.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a basketball coach, ideally with adolescents aged 13-17 years.
  • Experience working with NGOs or in community-based youth programs is highly desirable.
  • Basic first aid skills are highly recommended to ensure safety during sessions.
