Mechanical Supervisor (Subject to Donor Approval)

Job Purpose

This role ensures MAG’s mechanical assets are maintained at high standards, remain operational with minimal downtime, and provide sustained support to field operations. It involves managing the mechanical team, coordinating with the Mechanical Support Manager, and overseeing training, assessments, and performance monitoring of mechanical staff and operators to guarantee operational readiness.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Develop machinery maintenance schedule in coordination with the TFM and Mechanical Support Manager.
  2. Work with the TFM and STU team to ensure that mechanical assets receive accreditation where required.
  3. Coordinate with and advise the TFM and FOMs on suitability of task sites for mechanical deployment.
  4. Regularly assess operational competency of the mechanical field operations personnel, identify training needs and assist with training plan objectives, instruction development and training delivery.
  5. Provide technical reports on the development and use of mechanical assets used in MAG Lebanon programme.
  6. Assist in recruitment of machine operators.
  7. Ensure that the TFM and FOMs are fully briefed on all technical and operational issues and any technical difficulties arising regarding mechanical assets.
  8. Submit accurate operational reports as directed by the TFM and produce other technical reports and documents as and when required.
  9. Submit Bimonthly reports on the use of HDR&D funded assets in MAG Lebanon programme to the TFM/MSM.
  10. Ensure good understanding of all aspects of the programme and provide an information to all mechanical field staff of a wider programme issues, developments and achievements.
  11. Ensure that the essential mechanical documentation is correct and regularly updated.
  12. In coordination with the Mechanical Support Manager, TFM and FOMs ensure efficient mechanical support.
  13. Prepare Clearance Plans accurately for use of the mechanical assets across the Programme.
  14. Ensure that the TFM, FOMs and Mechanical Support Manager are fully briefed on all mechanical issues and key difficulties arising.
  15. Ensure that accurate and thorough reports following investigation into all incidents/ accidents where MAG mechanical assets are involved are completed and provided to TFM with details of appropriate actions taken, in accordance with MAG policies and procedures.
  16. When required, contribute to internal discussion and planning designed to improve MAG’s performance, results and impact in humanitarian mine action.
  17. Mechanical Supervisor is technically responsible and works under the operational supervision of the Technical Field Manager. When not undertaking Mechanical Team Supervisor duties, he is to carry out any other tasks assigned to him by the Technical Field Manager (TFM).
  18. Liaise with LMAC/ RMAC for Mechanical workplans.
  19. Carry out mechanical QA on all mechanics within the program.

Essential Requirements:

  1. Must hold a recognized machine operator qualification.
  2. Must be able to read and write in Arabic, with English proficiency considered an advantage.
  3. Familiarity with MAG operational reporting formats is an advantage.
  4. Must meet the required standards of physical and mental fitness.
  5. Must possess a valid Lebanese Public Driving License.

GENERAL

All MAG staff is expected to undertake the following general duties:

  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as may be required.

  • Able to work in a mixed team.
  • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes.
  • Understand and uphold the standards outlined in MAG’s Safeguarding Framework, acting with due care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with MAG’s work and reporting concerns if they do arise.
