Recreational Activities Educator

Project Background

The ReStart project aims to restore and strengthen access to quality education and psychosocial support for vulnerable children in protection shelter in the Central Bekaa area. The project provides a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment within the shelter, combining retention support, Adapted Basic Literacy and Numeracy (ABLN), Youth BLN, life skills, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and recreational activities. Through this integrated approach, the project seeks to rebuild children’s foundational skills, enhance their emotional resilience, and promote a safe, nurturing space that enables them to regain stability and progress toward reintegration into society.

 

Primary Purpose:

The Recreational Activities Educator is responsible for designing, facilitating, and supervising engaging recreational activities that promote the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children and youth residing in protection shelters, contributing to their overall well-being, resilience, and reintegration into a structured educational and supportive environment.

 

Task #1: Providing high-quality and structured recreational activities:

  • Designs and implements a diverse range of recreational activities, including sports, arts, theater activities and CBPSS.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers comprehensive session plans and instructional materials to address the different learning abilities;
  • Adapts activities to meet the needs and abilities of various age groups and skill levels, ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Leads children and youth through creative play and hands-on activities.
  • Leads group sessions, motivating and encouraging participants to engage fully in the activities.
  • Maintains and organizes activity materials, equipment, and spaces, ensuring they are safe, clean, and ready for use.
  • Develops and prepares a variety of materials and resources (worksheets and activities);
  • Increases children and youth’s autonomy in completing their tasks;
  • Encourages children and youth’s cooperation and self-learning (peer-to-peer, tutoring, etc.);
  • Performs all the tasks assigned within the scope of his/her job.

 

Task #2: Protection:

  •  Ensures the implementation of Amel’s Code of Conduct, Child protection policy, PSEAH standards and Safeguarding policies and procedures;
  • Establishes classroom rules and procedures to maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment;
  • Adopts positive discipline practices ensuring that children and youth feel comfortable, safe and respected;
  • Oversees children during recess and activities;
  • Supports the social worker/psychologist in engaging the community members in the children’s learning (communication skills);
  • Designs and organizes occasional activities (such as community events, distribution, etc.) in coordination with other team members according to the community needs;
  • Implements the protective measures for health protection continuously.
  • Supports the organization of any specific activities to respond to urgent needs;

Task #3: Monitoring & evaluation:

  • Design relevant tools to assess the activities’ results (pre/posttest, personal observations, focus group discussion, etc.);
  • Monitors the attendance of the children daily;
  • Reports to the field officer on time.

Task #4: Coordination:

  • Coordinates daily with the project’s team members to adopt the collective response to the children's needs (coherent response with animator, social worker, psychologist, etc.);
  • Attends and takes part in staff meetings;
  • Takes initiative to find collective solutions to challenges due to context/situation changes and adapts the project’s activities according to the retention support project goal (coordination meetings);
  • Ensures smooth referrals with the field officer/ social worker/psychologist for individual cases with the internal referral pathways;

 

Task #5: Professional Development:

  • Participates in internal and external professional development activities (20 training hours).

Reports to: Field Officer, Field Coordinator, Project Coordinator, or Learning Development Coordinator

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts Education, Theater, or any related field.
  • 3-4 years of experience working with children and youth in educational, recreational, or community-based settings, preferably within an NGO setting.
  • Good knowledge and previous experience in facilitating sports, creative arts, and theater/drama activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic.

Location: Zahle- Central Bekaa

Working hours: Six days a week, 4 hours a day, including preparation hours, coordination meetings, events, etc.
