Join our 12th Sexuality Hotline Counselors' Training!

Due to the intense escalation of the Zionist aggression on the country over the past months, the Sexuality Hotline Counselors Training will be postponed until a later, unset date.

In the meantime, this call will remain open for rolling applications.

We are holding an info-session on Thursday 21 May 2026 at 6:00 pm. Register on the link at the end of this post to receive a Zoom link.

We will keep you posted with any updates and decisions regarding your applications.

The A Project invites you to apply for an intensive six-day training on Gender, Sexuality, and Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), for a chance to join our team of volunteer counselors who accompany callers on our Sexuality Hotline.

Becoming part of our team of volunteer counselors also means joining a community of committed members and contributing to research, writing, and outreach activities at The A Project.

Since its launch in November 2016, the hotline has received questions on a wide range of topics, including sexual pleasure, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), contraception, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationships, mental health, and sexual violence.

We hold this training yearly to ensure the hotline is consistently supported by politically aware, empathetic, and SRHR-knowledgeable counselors who are able to dedicate time to supporting callers.

Could you be one of the people we are looking for?

We are looking for people who:

  • Are interested in sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender justice, and queer feminist movement-building
  • Speak Arabic fluently, and preferably English as well
  • Are cis women, trans women, trans men, or gender non-conforming individuals
  • Live in Lebanon
  • Can commit to attending all 6 days of the training without exception
  • Can commit to follow-up online trainings over the 2 months following the 6-day training
  • Commit to undergoing our end-of-training assessment (required before joining the hotline)
  • Are committed to taking on paid hotline shifts for at least 6 months after their training

And we have a soft spot for those who have:

  • Attended The A Project's Sex and Society Reading Retreat, the Politics of Mental Health Reading Retreat, or the Reproductive Justice Reading Retreat
  • Contributed to feminist writing, thinking, and/or organizing in Lebanon or the region

Note:

  • You are not expected to have any health-related knowledge or prior counseling experience before the training. Our counselors do not come from medical or professional backgrounds, but are required to attend intensive sessions to expand their knowledge.
  • Taking shifts on the hotline is done rotationally (taking turns among other counselors). It is voluntary and paid.
  • This is not an employment opportunity, but a remunerated volunteer opportunity to learn and practice community support and accompaniment.

Among many others, the training will cover the following topics:

  • The politics of sexuality, gender, and non-normativity
  • Basic anatomy and physiology of sexual and reproductive systems
  • Contraception
  • Trans-specific bodily autonomy
  • Reproductive tract infections and sexually transmitted infections
  • Pregnancy and delivery
  • Sexual pleasure
  • Unwanted pregnancies
  • Sexual violence
