Psychiatrist-Bekaa

Responsibilities:

Provide specialized mental health care to patients according to adapted and up-to-date medical knowledge, National Mental Health Program protocols, Medair protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients’ health and mental health conditions.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Provide face to face consultations within the clinic and/or a mobile clinic in person or via teleconsultations, taking into consideration a holistic approach to the beneficiaries needs when setting up the treatment plan.
  • Apply medical knowledge and skills for diagnosis and prevention. Carry out outpatient consultations, with appropriate clinical examination, prescribing necessary treatment and diagnostic tests according to national protocols and best practices.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness if the patient is not capable of taking his/her own decision (e.g mental disabilities, underage,…) and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Follow up the evolution of the patients, including consultations, examinations, and adjust treatment following MOPH and National Mental Health Program protocols.
  • Follow-up on all the investigation results and make sure the information about the management plan is communicated to the beneficiary.
  • Identify social and mental health needs of the beneficiary and ensure the referral to the adequate departments.
  • Ensure that the medical file is clearly filled and complete with a copy of the all the investigations results included and perform data encoding when applicable. 
  • Ensure compliance with IPC measures and protocols.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity.
  • Inform the relevant manager of any medical errors (medical director, PHCC director as relevant).
  • Surpervise trained GP and nurses service delivery through community of practice in the new NMHP model.
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of care.
  • Ensure professional confidentiality is respected.

 

General skills:
Required professional skills and knowledge:

  • Mastery of the psychiatric assessment and usage of ICD 10/ ICD 11 terminology
  • Mastery of Pharmacology and willingness to base prescriptions on the recommended MOPH list of psychotropic and neurological medications
  • Ability to design a treatment plan and refer patient to other professionals when needed
  • Ability to conceptualize cases from an integrative perspective
  • Experience providing clinical supervision or leading trainings is a plus

Skilled in or willing to build their capacity and knowledge in:

  • National Mental Health Program protocol and model of care
  • Developing family-centered, goal and strength focused, recovery-oriented care plan
  • Mental health in complex emergencies (IASC guidelines, Psychological First Aid, mhGAP…)
  • Biopsychosocial model in mental health
  • Community-based approach in mental health
  • Human rights-based approach in mental health
  • Evidence-based approach in mental health (e.g., IPT, CBT,TF-CBT, EMDR)
  • Knowledge about the predictable stresses of humanitarian aid work and the policies and practices needed to mitigate them

 

Competencies:

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to adhere to ethical considerations and principles with regard to work with vulnerable populations
  • Basic computer skills (electronic medical file, Excel, Powerpoint, Word), PHENICS is a plus.
  • Languages: Arabic in addition to English or French
