The Child Psychologist will provide individualized psychological support to children identified through group psychosocial support activities in targeted collective shelters. Working in coordination with a multidisciplinary team, the psychologist will assess, support, and monitor children experiencing emotional, behavioral, developmental, or psychosocial challenges. The psychologist will provide one-on-one counseling sessions for children and, when relevant, guidance to caregivers to strengthen the child’s support system. The psychologist will also make referrals for children requiring specialized mental health and/or protection services through established Child Protection and MHPSS referral pathways.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Conduct psychological assessments for children referred through group psychosocial support activities, including behavioral, emotional, and developmental evaluations.
- Develop individualized support plans based on the child’s needs.
- Deliver one-on-one psychological support sessions for children, adapted to their condition and needs.
- Monitor and follow up on the child’s psychological progress throughout the intervention period.
- Provide guidance to caregivers, when relevant, to strengthen the child’s support system.
- Make timely referrals to specialized mental health and/or protection services through established Child Protection and MHPSS referral pathways.
- Coordinate with PSS Officers and relevant team members regarding children identified for additional mental health support.
- Maintain confidential records, assessment forms, consultation records, referral records, and other required documentation.
- Ensure timely reporting of activities to the Project Manager.
- Participate in regular team meetings, case discussions, and coordination meetings.
- Ensure all activities are implemented in line with IOCC safeguarding, Child Protection, confidentiality, and PSEA policies.
- Carry out any other relevant tasks related to the role, as agreed with the Project Manager.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong documentation, reporting, case follow-up, referral tracking, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build rapport with children and caregivers.
- Strong interviewing, observation, and assessment skills.
- Strong knowledge of child mental health, Child Protection, safeguarding, referral pathways, confidentiality, trauma-informed approaches, and mental health in emergencies.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and in challenging environments.
- Ability to adhere to ethical considerations and principles when working with vulnerable populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Dynamic and flexible personality.
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English; French is an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a child psychologist or in providing psychological support and counseling services for children.
- Experience conducting psychological assessments, case management, follow-up, and referrals for children is required.
- Experience working with children affected by displacement, crisis, trauma, or other psychosocial stressors is preferred.
- Experience working in humanitarian, emergency, Child Protection, protection, or MHPSS programs is preferred.
- Previous experience working with displaced and vulnerable children is an asset.
Working Conditions
- Based in targeted collective shelters and other field locations as needed (Mainly in Beirut / Mount Lebanon, Akkar and/ or North Lebanon).
- Regular travel between project locations may be required.
- Flexible working hours may be required depending on program needs.
- Position may require flexibility due to changing field conditions and project needs.
