Syrian Arab Republic - Communities of Return Index - Round 4 (1 January - 4 February 2026)

As the Syrian Arab Republic (hereafter referred to as Syria) enters a new year, the impact of the shift in power over a year ago (8 December 2024) continues to shape the country. The significant transformation in the political, humanitarian, and mobility landscape has enabled the return of approximately 1.94 million IDPs since December 2024, with continued return intentions into 2026.

Within this shifting landscape, the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) is releasing the fourth round of the Communities of Return Index (CoRI). This series monitors conditions in areas already witnessing or anticipating return movements to evaluate whether they offer an environment conducive to safe, dignified, and sustainable reintegration.

To support IDPs in making progress towards durable solutions, this report analyses conditions in communities currently experiencing return movements. It aims to highlight persisting displacement related vulnerabilities in order to inform humanitarian and development planning. The findings are intended to assist national and local authorities, humanitarian and development actors, and donor partners in identifying priority geographic areas for thematic assessments and in guiding targeted, area-based interventions.
