General objective:
Under the supervision of the WASH Activity Manager, the Field Officer is in charge of the community-level assessments, implementation, monitoring and community engagement activities related to WASH interventions, emergency response activities and support to project partner(s) in the field.
Responsibilities and main activities:
Evaluation / diagnostic:
- Collect accurate data at the community level and conduct different assessments and surveys based on the needs
Implementation and operational monitoring
- Identify target groups, plan activities, and update tools while conducting regular field monitoring of WASH and emergency response interventions in coordination with partners and stakeholders
- Ensure regular field follow up visits to assess, identify and monitor the project activities, community needs and emergency response interventions
- Coordinate with local stakeholders, committees, municipalities, and project partner(s) during implementation
- Report immediately to the line manager any irregularities, incidents, or urgent needs identified in the field
- Work together with WASH Committees and community leadership in the identification of problematic areas and community concerns
- Support emergency response activities, including rapid needs assessments, distributions, and community-level interventions
- Participate in the rapid need assessment following emergencies or population movements
- Update tools and activities depending on the change in needs
- Support internal and external referrals where needed
- Follow up with community committees and support awareness raising, community engagement and training activities
Reporting/Communication
Reporting
- Share with the line manager and the security focal point all relevant information about security, activities, logistics, or administrative issues that occurred at the field level, using Solidarités International’s tools and procedures
- Maintain accurate reporting, data management of the activities, incidents, achievements, referrals, information, etc., and report monitoring results.
Communication / representation / coordination
- Give information to the beneficiaries about SI mandate, activities, results, and external actors and represent SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL when necessary
- Facilitate, build up and maintain good relationships with the beneficiaries.
- Participate in the mitigation of problems between communities when they arise
- Communicate with other SI activities and departments for the daily activities
This list is not exhaustive, and other related tasks (within the category of the supervisor's position) may be assigned at the request of the line manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Studies: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian studies, social sciences, international development, or a related discipline. WASH-related training or certifications are an asset.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in humanitarian work or with NGOs, preferably in emergency response and/or WASH activities.
Language: Good command of both English and Arabic (reading, speaking and writing)
IT:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with data collection tools (KoBo, ODK, or similar) is an asset
Qualification:
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of data collection and activities monitoring tools.
- Ability to collect, verify, and report field data accurately under time constraints
- Basic understanding of WASH and emergency response interventions
Core Competencies: Strong organizational and communication skills, ability to work under pressure, teamwork, and respect for humanitarian principles.
Other Requirements:
- Previous exposure to emergency response contexts and understanding of humanitarian standards and the “Do No Harm” principle are highly desirable
- Strong community engagement skills and ability to interact with beneficiaries and local stakeholders
- Flexibility to work in the field and travel frequently to project sites
- Valid driving license
