Project Background
This project aims to provide an integrated multisectoral humanitarian response to conflict-affected and displaced populations in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, South Lebanon, and Bekaa, ensuring access to essential health, protection, and education services through community-based and mobile modalities.
Within the education component, the project seeks to enhance access to safe, inclusive, and quality learning opportunities for vulnerable children affected by conflict and displacement in Saida. Education interventions will include center-based educational support activities, as well as Education in Emergencies (EiE) interventions implemented in shelters and displacement settings. The project will also integrate psychosocial support and inclusive approaches to ensure that children with learning difficulties and disabilities can fully participate in educational activities, while contributing to their learning continuity, wellbeing, and resilience.
Primary Purpose:
The Subject Leader provides academic and technical leadership for curriculum development, instructional quality, assessment, and teacher professional development. The role ensures the effective implementation of educational programs through curriculum design, classroom observation, coaching, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices to maximize learner outcomes.
Task #1: Curriculum Development & Quality Education :
- Leads the design, review, and continuous improvement of subject-specific curricula, schemes of work, lesson plans, and instructional materials aligned with learning objectives, educational standards, and organizational priorities;
- Develops, reviews, edits, and validates high-quality learning resources, including worksheets, activities, assessments, teacher guides, and digital content;
- Ensures that curricula and learning materials incorporate differentiated instruction, inclusive education principles, and active learning strategies to address diverse learner needs and abilities;
- Reviews educational content to ensure accuracy, consistency, age appropriateness, relevance, and pedagogical effectiveness;
- Provides technical guidance and support to teachers on curriculum implementation, lesson planning, teaching methodologies, and subject-specific approaches;
- Collaborates with teachers to strengthen learner-centered practices that promote critical thinking, self-learning, learner autonomy, and engagement;
- Participates actively in the development, revision, and validation of educational materials by providing feedback, facilitating consultations, and contributing to quality assurance processes;
- Conducts curriculum evaluations and recommends improvements based on educational research, classroom observations, and learner outcomes;
- Performs all tasks assigned within the scope of the position.
Task #2: Monitoring, Evaluation & Academic Quality Assurance
- Designs, reviews, and validates assessment frameworks and tools to monitor learner achievement and curriculum effectiveness (diagnostic assessments, formative and summative assessments, pre/post-tests, etc.);
- Oversees the development and standardization of assessments to ensure alignment with curriculum objectives and learning outcomes;
- Conducts regular classroom observations to monitor teaching quality, curriculum implementation, learner engagement, and instructional effectiveness;
- Uses observation tools and evidence-based practices to identify strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement in teaching and learning;
- Analyzes assessment data and learner outcomes to identify learning gaps, trends, and opportunities for curriculum enhancement;
- Monitors the quality and effectiveness of curriculum implementation across classrooms and educational programs;
- Prepares observation reports, academic reviews, and performance analyses, and shares recommendations;
- Supports teachers in interpreting assessment data and adapting instructional practices to improve learner outcomes;
- Monitors the implementation of improvement plans and follows up on agreed actions resulting from classroom observations and academic reviews.
Task #3: Educational Standards, Safeguarding & Learning Environment:
- Ensures that all curriculum materials and educational practices comply with organizational policies, educational standards, safeguarding requirements, and child protection principles;
- Integrates social-emotional learning, inclusion, protection, and well-being considerations into curriculum design and educational resources;
- Promotes safe, respectful, inclusive, and learner-centered educational environments through curriculum guidance and teacher support;
- Provides guidance to teachers on positive classroom management strategies and child-friendly educational practices;
- Collaborates with social workers, psychologists, and education teams to integrate protective and psychosocial considerations into educational programming;
- Ensures that educational materials incorporate appropriate health, safety, and protection measures where relevant;
- Contributes to educational responses that address emerging learner and community needs.
Task #4: Coordination, Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Coordinates regularly with teachers, education staff, project teams, and management to ensure effective curriculum implementation and educational quality;
- Leads subject-specific meetings, curriculum review sessions, moderation meetings, and professional learning discussions;
- Provides technical support, coaching, mentoring, and guidance to teachers regarding curriculum delivery, lesson planning, assessment practices, and instructional strategies;
- Facilitates communication, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration among team members to ensure consistency and coherence across educational programs;
- Develops and supports solutions to educational challenges and adapts curriculum implementation according to contextual changes and learner needs;
Task #5: Professional Development & Capacity Building
- Designs, facilitates, and supports teacher training and capacity-building initiatives related to curriculum implementation, teaching methodologies, assessment practices, and subject-specific content;
- Provides constructive feedback, coaching, and mentoring to teachers following classroom observations and academic reviews;
- Supports teachers in developing and implementing professional growth and improvement plans;
- Facilitates collaborative reflection sessions to promote continuous improvement and sharing of best practices;
- Models effective teaching and learning strategies and may conduct demonstration lessons when required;
- Participates in internal and external professional development activities and remains informed of current educational research, curriculum trends, and best practices;
- Encourages a culture of continuous learning, reflective practice, innovation, and professional excellence among educational staff;
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Experience in the subject, supervision, and in ngos
- Languages: Fluent in Arabic and English
