From 08 and 09 December, the ETC paused all activities to concentrate on staff safety, relocation, and business continuity―following the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad’s administration, on 08 December, which escalated the security situation across Syria.

UNHCR is engaging with thousands of refugees in neighboring countries, often with daily contact through helplines, surveys, focus group discussions, and other communications channels, listening to their concerns, providing up-to-date information, and understanding their perceptions and intentions around return.

Over the past 14 years, more than 13 million Syrians have been forced to flee their homes, and 90% of people inside Syria require some form of humanitarian assistance. The recent developments across Syria will impact millions of people’s lives both inside the country and within the region.

Over the past 14 months, more than 44,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have been killed in Gaza. Nearly all of Gaza’s residents have been displaced — many multiple times.

On 18 October 2023, IFRC launched the Middle East Crisis Emergency Appeal to support the coordination and scale-up of response to the crisis, in addition to the readiness activities in neighbouring countries.

We, the members of the Alliance for Empowering Partnership (A4EP), a collective voice of global Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and advocates of localization of humanitarian actions, stand in collective solidarity with the people of Lebanon as they face an escalating humanitarian crisis resulting from the war that has raged since 2023. This prolonged violence has inflicted profound suffering on innocent civilians, exacerbated by the international community’s alarming silence and inaction.

The centre’s team is happy to announce that the work and mission undertaken by Lebanon Support, will carry on under the new name of the Centre for Social Sciences Research and Action. 

The centre is changing its name so as to better reflect its ongoing work that has been expanding and growing over the past 15 years, in line with its motto of Social Science for change achieved through transformative research and engagement.

A4EP, a global alliance of Southern organisations, the 63rd and the newest signatory,  will ensure GB policy discourses remain centred on affected populations and informed  by the experiences of local actors to strengthen effective, efficient and timely  responses through a nexus approach. A4EP commits to working together with  international actors to address the barriers in establishing equitable partnerships with  local actors. We will work with others to ensure distributive and collaborative decision 
making in the global governance of the Grand Bargain and at the country level.

The May 2016 World Humanitarian Summit brought together 9,000 participants. They came from 180
Member States, included 55 Heads of State and Government, 700 NGOs and CSOs, of which 350 national and
local ones, and 250 international ones, 350 representatives of the private sector, 130 representatives of the
UN agencies, funds and programmes and other stakeholders including academia, faith-based leaders, and
media. It was a culmination of an almost a two-years long multi-stakeholder process, costing millions of
dollars.

The World Humanitarian Summit(WHS) consultation process opened the space for voices of local and national actors about their experience of the global humanitarian system and its impact locally. As part of the preparations for the WHS in 2016, the High-Level Panel on Humanitarian Financing sought solutions to close the humanitarian financing gap. Their report made recommendations to shrink the needs, deepen and broaden the resource base for humanitarian action, and to improve delivery.

أتاحت المشاورات في مؤتمر القمة العالمي للعمل الإنساني (WHS) المجال لسماع أصوات الجهات الفاعلة المحلية والوطنية حول تجاربهم بالنظام الإنساني العالمي وتأثيره المحلي عليهم. وكجزء من الاستعدادات لمؤتمر القمة العالمي للعمل الإنساني في عام 2016، سعى فريق الخبراء رفيع المستوى المعني بتمويل الشؤون الإنسانية إلى تحديد سبل لسد فجوة التمويل الإنساني. وقدّم تقرير الفريق توصيات لتقليص الاحتياجات، وتعميق وتوسيع قاعدة الموارد للعمل الإنساني، وتحسين التسليم.

The Covid19 pandemic has extensively and adversely impacted the aid architecture, at a time when the lifesaving assistance to population facing natural disasters or protracted crises is most needed. Local organisations are facing further marginalisation at a time when they are at the forefront of the response, be it Covid19 health response or economic or other crises caused during this period.

The Alliance for Empowering Partnership (A4EP) celebrates with pride the achievements of local heroes. On World Humanitarian Day 2020, we pay tribute to the many local heroes in the many local organisations that responded quickly, and often at great personal risk, to the impacts of COVID-19 and the lockdown measures to control its spread.

The Jordan INGO Forum (JIF) and the Jordanian NGOs Forum (JONAF) have just launched the June 2020 Walk the Talk report on progress and challenges faced in implementing the commitments made by the Government of Jordan and the International Community under the Jordan Compact and at subsequent Brussels meetings in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
