The ongoing conflict in Lebanon has reached a critical point, with over 3,000 deaths recorded since 8 October 2023 – 58 per cent more than the 1,900 fatalities during the 2006 conflict.

The Humanitarian Country Team in Lebanon, led by the Humanitarian Coordinator and supplementing national efforts, continues to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people affected by the increase in hostilities in Lebanon.

As the war in Lebanon casts a shadow of devastation for millions of people across the country, community-led initiatives and local efforts are testament to the surviving solidarity and hope among Lebanese society.

In the heart of Beirut, one such initiative is providing a lifeline for people housed in the Al Azarieh building—once a bustling commercial centre, now a shelter for more than 2,500 people who have been displaced by Israeli bombardments and incursions.

At the end of the month, the situation remains extremely tense, with ongoing Israeli attacks targeting cities and villages across Lebanon. Since the conflict began, 178 paramedics have lost their lives, 279 have been injured, and 246 emergency vehicles have been targeted.

The humanitarian situation in Lebanon has reached levels that exceed the severity of the 2006 war, with ongoing hostilities resulting in a toll of 2,867 deaths (including 178 children and 560 women killed) and over 13,000 injuries since 8 October 2023, according to national authorities.

Since October 8, 2023, Lebanon has experienced an increase of conflict which deepened on September 23, 2024: strong bombardments, airstrikes and ground invasion, caused numerous casualties and significant displacements, particularly in Beirut, the southern and eastern regions, and lately also the northern areas.

An official delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has arrived in Beirut, Lebanon, aboard the latest Qatari Emiri Air Force (QEAF) aircraft, deployed with a new shipment of humanitarian aid from QRCS, as part of the Qatari airlift in support of the people affected by the recent military escalation in Lebanon.

قام وفد رسمي من المقر الرئيسي للهلال الأحمر القطري في الدوحة بمرافقة طائرة القوات الجوية الأميرية القطرية التي وصلت أمس الاثنين إلى مطار رفيق الحريري الدولي بالعاصمة اللبنانية بيروت، وعلى متنها شحنة جديدة من المساعدات الإنسانية المقدمة من الهلال الأحمر القطري، ضمن الجسر الجوي القطري لدعم الأشقاء اللبنانيين المتضررين من التطورات الجار ية مؤخراً.

UNRWA is working with a range of partner organisations (community based, local NGOs and international NGOs) in all its emergency shelters to provide a full range of services, including hot meals and psychosocial support activities. In its emergency response, UNRWA has relied on the dedication and commitment of partners on the ground.

Airstrikes continued across the country, including in Nabatieh, Bekaa, Baalbek, South Lebanon and Mount Lebanon governorates, and the number of casualties increased to 2,593 people killed and more than 12,000 injured since 8 October 2023, according to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).

The current crisis is exacerbating long-term vulnerabilities, reversing previous development gains, and leading to increasingly visible humanitarian needs among the most vulnerable people.
