The Humanitarian Country Team in Lebanon, led by the Humanitarian Coordinator and supplementing national efforts, continues to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people affected by the increase in hostilities in Lebanon.

UNRWA collaborates with a range of partner organisations, including community-based, local NGOs, and international NGOs, in all its emergency shelters to provide a full range of services, including hot meals and psychosocial support activities.

One month into the ongoing escalations, WFP has rapidly responded to the growing needs of the affected people through food and/or cash assistance to 402,000 people across shelters and communities.

The humanitarian crisis continues to deepen in Lebanon as a result of intense and wide-scale hostilities, marked by violent strikes especially in the areas of South Lebanon, Bekaa, and Beirut’s southern suburbs.

A regional displacement crisis is unfolding in Lebanon, the Syrian Arab Republic and beyond, which will have serious implications for the region and its people.

Children and families in Lebanon continue to be directly affected by the deteriorating humanitarian crisis and violent intensification of hostilities across the country.

To date, the Government of Lebanon reports that over 1 million people have been displaced internally, while more than 400,000 (30% Lebanese and 70% Syrian) have fled to Syria, according to UNHCR.

Since the escalation of hostilities in mid-September 2024, displacement has dramatically increased from 110,000 between October 2023 and September 2024 to nearly 800,000 by 16 October 2024.

Access to essential services is increasingly difficult for both displaced and host communities.

Since October 8 there has been an increase in cross-border incidents between Israel and Lebanon, resulting in the displacement of people both within the South and elsewhere within the country.

The conflict in Lebanon continues to intensify, with Israeli airstrikes causing widespread destruction, including damage to Amel centers. Despite this, Amel's mobile medical units and field teams remain operational, providing essential services.

UNRWA activated its Emergency Response in Lebanon on 24 September. The Agency is currently operating 11 emergency shelters across the country.

Lebanon remains engulfed in a worsening humanitarian crisis as Israeli airstrikes continue to expand across the country targeting more areas with devastating impact on civilians and key infrastructure essential for daily life.

As part of the Interagency response, UNHCR has released an Emergency Appeal for Lebanon, urgently seeking to $111 million to scale up the response and cover immediate needs across all vulnerable population groups, including Lebanese and refugee.

Demographic Distribution & Vulnerability

Since 24 September 2024, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been conducting Rapid Needs Assessments (RNA) and Key Informative Interviews to identify and address the evolving needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). As of 17 October, the assessments involved 1,892 displaced families, compromising 8,877 individuals: 1,576 Lebanese, 296 Syrians, 11 Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon, two Palestinian Refugees from Syria, and seven individuals from other nationalities. 32% of the surveyed individuals are children under 15, 8% are elderly, and 4%...
