The entry of Syrian refugees into Lebanon and Jordan has resulted in unprecedented social and economic challenges to both countries.

Over three years after it began, the Syria crisis continues to weigh extremely heavily upon Lebanon. Around a quarter of its population is now made up of refugees, whose needs remain dire even as the resources available to address them appear to be shrinking.

As the Syrian Crisis enters its fourth year, numerous water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) needs remain to be filled among Syrian refugees living in Lebanon, who now number more than 1.1 million.

Amel Association International is publishing its second activity report on the activities undertaken by the Syrian Refugee Emergency Response programme from April 2013 to October 2013.

DRC in Lebanon The Danish Refugee Council began operating in Lebanon in 2004. Since then, the organization has partnered with local and international NGOs to implement different programs that followed the country’s needs. In March 2013, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) registered 48,000 Syrian refugees, bringing the number of refugees registered and awaiting registration with the Office to just under 400,000. However, the Lebanese Government estimates that approximately one million Syrians are seeking refuge in the country.
