Twenty-five years after the end of the Lebanese Civil War, the families of the missing and forcibly disappeared in Lebanon are still waiting for answers about the fate of their loved ones. Lebanon has had an ambiguous approach to the more than one million Syrians seeking protection in the country since 2011. The country is neither party to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, nor does it have any national legislation dealing with refugees.

The Kingdom of Netherlands has published an overview of its support to Lebanon in a report titled: Partners for Peace, Justice and Development. It contains an overview of the sectors that our bilateral support is channeled to- including demining, ruile of law, human rights, security sector support, and refugee humanitarian contributions.

In May 2015, the Lebanese authorities instructed UNHCR to temporarily suspend registration of Syrian refugees, including individuals already in the country and new arrivals.
