The right to freedom of movement forms one of the cornerstones of the international human rights regime and the Lebanese legal system. It is a right that everyone ought to enjoy regardless of race, national origin, residence status, religion or any other criteria.

Syrian refugee women and Palestinian refugee women from Syria face risks of serious human rights violations and abuses in Lebanon, including gender-based violence and exploitation. Those who are heads of their households are at particular risk.

يوجد في لبنان 21 سجنا وأربعة من هذه السجون مخصصة للنساء. و هناك سجنان اضافيان للأحداث. انّ الكشف النفسي و الرعاية الصحية النفسية غائبان في السجون اللبنانية. نأمل أن التوصيات الصادرة في هذه الدراسة تصبح واقعا كما أنها ستغير حياة العديد من الأشخاص المنسية خلف القضبان وستمنع "حكم بالسجن مدى الحياة" مماثل في المستقبل للسجناء.

Lebanon has a total of 212 prisons, out of which 4 are specific to women. And there are 2 additional prisons dedicated to minors. Mental health screening and care is absent in Lebanese prisons. Catharsis hopes the recommendations from this study become a reality as they will change the live of many forgotten person behind bars, some of whom have been in prison for over 35 years, and it will prevent a similar “life sentence” fate for future mentally ill inmates.

This is a survey with Lebanese women 75% and Syrian refugees women 25% aiming at detecting the status of human rights in general and women rights in particular in the local southern community as well as refugees' community. The study also aims at detecting the economical status related to these women and the possibility or the access to jobs or small businesses financing and the level of economical dependency on males which relates positively or negatively on their knowledge of rights and consequently access to it.

Many of the conditions are very difficult to meet and have the effect of denying people fleeing conflict the possibility of seeking safety in Lebanon. This briefing details the restrictions facing Palestinian refugees from Syria who try to enter or stay in Lebanon, as far as these are known.
