The project is funded by The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund and implemented by The “Lebanese Environment Forum” (LEF). Lebanese Environment Forum (LEF) and the Society for the protection of nature in Lebanon (SPNL) signed a partnership agreement with the several municipalities to promote responsible hunting practices in Lebanon through initiating a pilot model public hunting area – PHA . LEF has received a CEPF grant to promote sustainable hunting practices in Lebanon, using a community-based approach. The project will complement other work by the BirdLife International/UNDP-GEF Migratory Soaring Birds project, and by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), the BirdLife national partner. SPNL is currently working on the identification of 10 PHAs on municipal land distributed in the different Lebanese regions. The project aims to develop a good model for cooperation between conservation NGOs in Lebanon towards a common goal, and the management of possible PHAs in all Lebanese territory through collaborative efforts. Based on the recommendations of the project's communication plan, LEF will develop and produce various awareness materials to be used by the LEF conservation NGOs including a Mobile App operating of both Android and IOS. MOBILE APP The LEF invites qualified companies/freelancers to submit a quotation for providing Responsible Hunting Guide app. The Official “Promoting sustainable hunting practices in Lebanon” Hunting Guide app should be created in a collaborative effort between the project manager and qualified freelancer/company. The app should be an innovative outdoor guide, that helps hunters plan the perfect adventure. With essential hunting information the app is the ultimate source for essential sustainable hunting. Just in time for hunting season, hunters will be able to locate PHAs sites and gain immediate access to on-the-spot species profiles, rules and regulations, and important permits and licensing details. Advanced GPS technology enhances any trek through the woods, allowing hunters to record trails and use waypoints and photo waypoints to mark sites. With the app’s GPS enabled “Nearest Me” feature; uncover which public hunting areas are closest to the hunter so he/she can embark on his/her adventure right away. The Hunting Guide app will provide plenty of other standard features and advanced GPS technology to maximize any outdoor excursion: •GPS enabled locator for public access areas •Species profiles •Rules and regulations •License and permit information •Safety communication tool •Advanced GPS mapping features •Share and compare photos/videos •Cache map tiles for offline use •Record tracks, distance and time •Mark waypoints and photo waypoints •Recall, post or share saved data •Accuracy and distance indicator •Friend Finder feature that allows users to keep track of friends and family along the way • Built-in compass to help users navigate •Real-time calendar of events •News and advisories •Potentially life-saving Alert feature that supplies users’ GPS coordinates to designated contacts in case of an emergency. •The enhanced features on the app should be designed to function in areas with little to no mobile reception; however, some of the features require mobile data reception in order to function properly.
