Community Center Teacher

Main Function: Through our first community center we are working to create a scalable model for community centers that are situated within or in close proximity to informal settlements, which involve and enable the community to meet their own needs and develop their own skills, empowering themselves in the process.   One major component of this is working to provide educational support classes. Through our talks with the communities already, this has been voiced as the most important component. Their main wishes are to provide education support for their children, as well as ESL classes for the teens and adults.   For education, our main goals are to ensure that those school aged children are eligible for enrollment to Lebanese Public Schools, and for those whom are already enrolled, assisting with homework support that ensures that they can keep up with the rest of their class.   Alongside this we will look to provide and empower the community with work skills that can both provide sustainability as well as skills that are beneficial during repatriation.   Responsibilities: -          Creating the unit / lesson plans, using active learning methods -          To know the kinds of students he / she have. -          To work out a system in which to evaluate the students’ levels. -          To set goals and objectives for the lesson and the class. -          To encourage instructional discussion during the class. -          Fill out daily and weekly reports on classes held. -          Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the child. Essential Criteria: -          Basic- Excellent English, written and oral -          Qualification in Teaching -          The teacher should have her/his own identity values, respect themselves and be flexible. -          Appreciate the influence of culture and not be affected by external factors. -          Have a good knowledge about the role expectation of her / his position. -          Be self-motivated and work within a multi-cultural organization. -          Able to handle confidential and politically sensitive issues in a responsible and mature manner.   Desirable: -          Experience with humanitarian work -          A relevant Bachelor’s degree -          Teaching experience -          Familiar with technology (computers and tablets)
