Capacity Building Coordinator- North

ROLE PURPOSE: Ensure continuous capacity building of non-formal education teachers, such as Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN) and/or Early Childhood Care and development (ECCD) teachers, through systematic training, supervision and coaching in delivering quality education and achieving the learning objectives and outcomes whilst ensuring that a variety of child centred and active teaching and learning approaches are adopted. The role holder is expected to pay particular attention to aspects linked to child protection and participation, ensuring that rights of all children are respected at all times in a safe and friendly learning environment.   SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: Education Program Manager Staff directly reporting to this post: None   KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Program Implementation Support Ensure timely and quality implementation of the Education in Emergency components linked with capacity building, particularly in non-formal education programmes. Ensure teachers in each learning site are familiar with the curriculum to be delivered, its objectives and expected learning outcomes and receive the necessary support in implementing their lessons. Coach and build the teachers’ capacity in: Creating a conductive teaching and learning environment where the learners will get education according to the teaching standards and learning objectives set by Save the Children International, including Save the Children International’s Quality Learning Environment Framework; Preparing a scheme of work, lessons, and lesson plans and schedules on a weekly and monthly basis according to Save the Children International's formats and in line with the learning overall objectives; Making the learning process attractive, meaningful, and accessible to learners, through the application of child-centred, active and inclusive learning methods; Encouraging learner’s active participation and critical thinking; Monitoring and evaluating students’ learning achievements.     Provide the education staff and partner staff with capacity building trainings on classroom observations and coaching sessions to teachers, including facilitating teacher learning circles, e and provide one to one support, constructive feedback/mentoring sessions afterwards with clear improvement plans to be agreed and established. Willing to be trained as Master Trainers per the needs of the programmes and to deliver quality Training of Trainers (ToT) to SCI education staff and partner staff, as well as training of field level stakeholders including caregivers, teachers and community members when relevant. Oversee the implementation of the classroom observation and coaching sessions conducted by Education assistants Keep records of the teachers’ improvements throughout the project and flag any common gaps to be addressed through specific training. Ensure effective and efficient communication with teachers and Save the Children International colleagues from different sections supporting smooth running of the programmes. Contribute with ideas and suggestions based on the day to day interaction for programme development/expansion in line with the Education Strategy for Lebanon and support the Education Technical Advisor and/or specialist in design of appropriate tools Ensure strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality and a child centred approach and to act in the best interests of the child. Support teachers and education team in ensuring inclusion of children with special needs according to Save the Children International and International standards. Contribute to donor reports and regular reporting on capacity building activities implemented.  Monitoring and Evaluation Support the monitoring and evaluation process of the Education in Emergencies activities, with a particular focus on indicators related to learning outcomes, teachers’ performance and quality learning environments. Produce timely reports for internal use on the capacity building activities in each learning site/school, highlighting challenges, best practices and lessons learnt. Make weekly visits to programme sites to ensure that teachers, other education personnel, caregivers and the community at large are appropriately supported and qualitative programme objectives are achieved.  Capacity Building: Support and monitor the capacity building of Save the Children International education staff and partner staff, , ensure proper dissemination of information, and the right administration of capacity building tools. Build the capacity of teachers on a continuous basis and by applying different coaching and capacity building methods and approaches. Contribute to the monthly team capacity building plans and relevant trainings in collaboration with Education Programme Manager. Adherence to Save the Children policies and procedures Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.   QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES At least five years’ experience in education, prior teaching experience is a must. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science or similar. Master’s degree is an asset. An understanding of formal and non-formal education, education in emergencies, national development issues, particularly in relation to children & education, government institutions and the Lebanese public school system. Proven track record in timely and quality delivery of results/education programmes with limited guidance. Good understanding of education quality issues, including child-centred, inclusive and active learning methods and willingness to continuously update his/her skills. Good planning and reporting skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Prior proven track record in successful coaching an asset. Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English. French language skills are an asset. Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work in an insecure volatile context. Commitment  to  and  understanding  of  Save  the  Children’s  aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches. Excellent MS Office skills. Familiarity with Beirut, Mount Lebanon and south areas is an asset. Desirable: Experience working at community level with a wide range of stakeholders. Prior experience as a Master Trainer and/or in capacity building or coaching of teachers. Prior experience in a similar position with a local or international NGO. Experience working with multi-grade/multi-level classes.
