COORDINATOR OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARIES OF BEIRUT
(PART-TIME)
In order to contribute to the promotion of reading and the development of public spaces for all, the coordinator will be entrusted with the following tasks: to implement the association's policy in the public libraries of Beirut, develop services and organize the activities of libraries for different audiences; ensure the management of the libraries and the Kotobus (mobile library). He / she will carry out these tasks under the responsibility of the executive coordinator of the association.

MISSION 1: Implementation of the association's policy and goals in Beirut Libraries
Activity 1: Develop, in coordination with the Executive Coordinator, the medium-term action plans to be approved by the Administrative Committee; define annual action plans in accordance with the financial resources to be approved by the Executive Coordinator.
Activity 2: Define indicators to evaluate the activities of library and kotobus (mobile library) services; prepare evaluation reports including recommendations.
Activity 3: Facilitate the libraries commission to evaluate the services and make the necessary recommendations for the development of the libraries and their services, in the light of the policy of the association
MISSION 2: Develop and organize the services activities of libraries for the various audiences
Activity 1: Develop the acquisition policy, supervise the collections development, lead the acquisitions committee and oversee procurement follow-up, in close coordination with the Executive Coordinator for budgetary aspects.
Activity 2: Bring out the value of the libraries collections through the organization and supervision of the distribution of collections in libraries and with the support of librarians; supervise the physical and intellectual treatment of the items in order to ensure easy access and usage (cataloging, classification, storage, exhibition, announcements of new acquisitions, etc.)
Activity 3: Taking into account the changing needs of the public and developing innovative action plans to respond to them, assessing the impact of services and the development of users and uses, in particular with regard to reports and statistics on attendance and use.
Activity 4: Organize and supervise the services. The supervision of the smooth running of the services will concern in particular: reception and orientation of library users; reference service; book loan ; contact with schools, associations and various cultural institutions; training of the users, internet access, documentary research.
Activity 5: Supervise the activities at the libraries and coordinate with the responsible of the cultural activities to ensure their smooth running; evaluate the impact of the activities and ensure that they meet the needs of the users; participate in the cultural activities programming committee
Activity 6: Supervise the regular service of the Kotobus, ensure the good management and renewal of the collections, the smooth functioning of the books loans, and the planning of the tours.
MISSION 3: Development and management of public libraries in Beirut
Activity 1: Ensure the management of human resources by ensuring the proper distribution of tasks within the team, supervising the work of the team, organizing schedules and ensuring compliance, ensuring regular evaluations and developing skills of the team through internal or external trainings. Decisions on changes in responsibilities will be made with the approval of the Executive Coordinator as well as proposals for the creation of new positions, which will require the agreement of the Administrative Committee.
Activity 2: Manage equipment by overseeing the maintenance of computers and electronic equipment. The purchase of new equipment will be done by the office on the basis of technical specifications and quantities defined by the Library Coordinator.
Activity 3: Supervise the organization and the treatment of collections through book care and binding, cataloging and classification and presentation of collections. Ensure the distribution of work among librarians, and monitor the development of the database. Coordinate the elaboration and the update of working documents.
Activity 4: Monitor the functioning of the library system, software updates, propose the addition of modules if necessary and modify reports for statistics, organize trainings on new versions, evaluate services offered, follow up on technical problems.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and experience: Bachelor's degree in library and information science + 6 years minimum experience or equivalent degree in related fields (humanities, communication, cultural mediation) + minimum 9 years’ experience in library management
Relational skills: strong leadership, ability to communicate with different types of actors, ability to resolve conflicts.
Motivation: enthusiasm for ASSABIL’s mission and familiarity with books and cultural mediation
Flexibility and adaptability: interest in working in a multi-cultural environment, tolerance and respect for cultural diversity.
