INFORMATION ON THE CONTEXT   Handicap International’s advocacy unit aims at highlighting the human consequences of explosive weapons in populated areas in a new study. The study will build on existing information to find a correlation between the use of explosive weapons in populated areas and displacement of population in Syria, and to develop new information on this issue. Besides geospatial analysis of the use of weapon in Syria and collection of testimonies to highlight the correlation between use of EWIPA and displacement in Syria, Handicap International’s advocacy team will also conduct a quantitative survey among the Lebanese refugee population. The results of the survey will be critical to better understand the patterns and effects ofsingle and multiple displacements induced by the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.   Research Team   The surveyors will work closely with the advocacy unit’s staff (the information and publication advocacy manager) and external expert contracted to conduct the project. The consultant to train the surveyors to collect data, coordinate and monitor data collection. The consultant will then process and analyze the data. JOB DESCRIPTION General mission: The surveyors will collect quantitative data via individual interviews of Syrian refugees under the supervision of the advocacy unit team and the external expert.    Responsibilities: Perform a wide variety of research fieldwork preparation tasks: -help with identification of interviewees, -set interviews’ dates and locations, -make detailed observations on specific requests of interviewees, -prepare documents in Arabic to inform and obtain consent from interviewees.   Participate in training on data collection and study’s objectives Plan logistics for interviews: prepare itineraries and arrange transportation and accommodation eventually, Collect data (conduct individual interviews based on the questionnaires), the surveyor will need a vehicle and driving license. Fill and check questionnaires each day, including if necessary translate in English answers to open questions, Submit completed questionnaires to expert Participate in regular debriefing sessions with the consultant   PROFILE SOUGHT     Essential Preferable Qualification(s) :   College undergraduate or graduate Fluent in Arabic and English.   Experience (type and length of experience):     3 years’ experience in research or administrative support. Previous work with Syrian refugees.   Competencies (knowledge, skills required for the job, (see skills repository):   Excellent organizational skills. Excellent communication skills in Arabic and English. Driving license and personal vehicle compulsory.   Personal qualities:       Good knowledge of Lebanese and Syrian social and cultural context. Ability to work in team. Understanding and adherence to Handicap International’s values and ethics.
