Media And Communication Officer

  OXFAM PURPOSE:  To work with others to overcome poverty and suffering.     JOB PURPOSE:       To maximise coverage of Oxfam’s programme and campaign messages in Lebanon by supporting the development and delivery of effective information and communication material contributing to Oxfam’s overall influencing strategy in Lebanon. REPORTING LINES:   Reports to: Senior Media and Advocacy Officer   Staff reporting to this post: None BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY:   Duration: None     6 months contract, with possible extension   DIMENSIONS: Supports in raising the profile of Oxfam’s Lebanon programme with partners as well as local media. Assists in delivering communication material that has a significant impact on Oxfam’s public image and works within Oxfam policy and procedures. In close coordination with the line manager, supports in problem solving on complex issues, requiring creative thinking to find best solutions and drawing on information from a variety of sources to inform decision making. Required to operate to tight deadlines, using independent judgement within clear parameters. Capacity to independently produce quality communication materials (video, photos, audio, texts etc) that can be used by various outlets. Where requested, provide capacity building to partner organisations on communication   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:       To regularly generate high quality communication material of Oxfam’s livelihoods, humanitarian and gender programme in Lebanon This includes developing digital material on Oxfam’s livelihoods and humanitarian as well as gender work in Lebanon, generating social media material regularly, gathering and writing stories, developing and monitoring visibility, producing outreach material when needed. To produce material in both Arabic and English, providing translation where/when needed. To accompany journalists and visitors to Oxfam’s areas of operation. To work with the Economic Justice, humanitarian programme and gender teams, and local partner organisations, to support in developing and following up  visibility and communications plans for projects To regularly visit project sites (livelihoods and humanitarian) and partner organisations in the field to ensure a direct link between programme work and produced material. Flexibility to work out of normal offices hours is required, recognising comms and media is not a standard “office hours” job.   SKILLS & COMPETENCE:       Minimum of 2 years experience working in communication or related field. Strong writing skills, both in Arabic and English. Strong organisational and personal management skills, with ability to prioritise work issues to meet deadlines. Strong social media skills (eg Facebook/Twitter/blogs) Proven skills in photography, filming and video editing Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships Good analytical and conceptual thinking skills with good strategic perspective, able to understand complex issues and information from different sources and present this clearly and simply Ability to work creatively, effectively and in an innovative manner and to identify and develop new ways to use the media to Oxfam’s advantage.
