Youth Fellow

Official Job Title:             Youth Fellow Duty Station:                    Beirut, Lebanon Contract type:                  Service contract/ SC 5 Duration:                          12 months (with possibility for extension based on availability of funds and performance) Start Date:                        May 2017  Background The “Youth Fellowship Programme” has been supported by UNFPA since 2009.  These fellowships have contributed considerably to developing capacities of many   young   people   in   various   areas   including   programming,   coordination, and monitoring of various components of the UNFPA supported country programme as well as thematic areas such as HIV/AIDS, Reproductive Health (RH), gender equality, prevention of gender based violence, etc within development and humanitarian contexts.  Specifically, the fellowships contributed to 1) strengthening the capacity of the country offices in terms of human resources and effective programming for young people, 2) reinforcing youth participation in UNFPA programming for young people and, 3) demonstrating great practice of youth-adult partnership in UNFPA offices. Within the context of the fourth UNFPA Lebanon Country Programme (2017-2020), particular focus will be placed on young people - in the community and in school settings. Several interventions will be supported aiming at empowering young people to lead and implement selected initiatives targeting both Syrian youth refugees as well as Lebanese youth – particularly those most at risk and vulnerable.  UNFPA’s contribution to youth related interventions is also aligned to the framework of the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan (2017-2020), the 2030 agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and the UN Strategic Framework 2017-2020. Based on the above, UNFPA Lebanon intends to recruit a fellow who is expected to provide support to youth related projects and interventions implemented by various partners (government and NGOs).  The  youth  fellow  will  be  working  at  the UNFPA office  on a full  time basis  and  shall undertake tasks and responsibilities in line with the Terms of Reference and as detailed below.      Duties and Responsibilities Through the tasks and responsibilities related to the youth programme in Lebanon, the fellow will be exposed to UNFPA’s work on young people at national level. The fellow will engage in concrete and ongoing projects and initiatives from a rights and gender base perspectives. Specifically and under the direct supervision of the RH National Programme Officer and in close collaboration with the National Youth Officer, the fellow will undertake the following tasks: Assist  in  following up  on  the implementation  of  the  Annual  Work  Plans (AWPs) of the various implementing partners (IPs) including several NGOs as well as government counterparts such as the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Minister of Social Affairs, Ministry of Education and Higher Education/Educational Center for Research and Development, etc Assist in following up on the actions and recommendations agreed  upon between UNFPA and the various above-mentioned IPs Participate  in  monitoring  activities  such  as  field  visits  to  attend  events, meetings etc. implemented by the IPs and ensure collecting and submitting relevant information  Proactively contribute to peer to peer related interventions  Assist in provision of logistic and administrative support in the organization of activities/events directly implemented by UNFPA  Provide input on the development/piloting of youth related material/resources  Provide needed support for regional youth initiatives  Assist in preparing/reviewing minutes of meetings  Assist in developing/adapting/adopting tools/forms for monitoring purposes among other  Assist in compilation and drafting of information to be used to increase UNFPA visibility through various means and tools  Undertake literature review to compile information, documents, material, research tools, reports, good practices, etc. that would support the implementation of the various activities/projects under this programme  Attend/participate in events, meetings, conferences organized by other UN agencies, IPs or civil society as advised by the office  Participate in UNFPA staff meetings or any other meetings as requested  Contribute to SDG related activities (by UNFPA and/or inter-agency collaboration)  Engage in relevant and related learning and training opportunities as  they come available  Undertake additional tasks and functions as requested.   Results/Expected Outputs  Support provided in following up on the implementation of the AWPs  Coordination meetings, field monitoring visits and staff meetings attended /undertaken  Logistical  arrangements  provided and events/meetings implemented  Data and information compiled  Forms/templates produced  Assistance provided for minutes of meeting  At the end of the fellowship, the fellow is to organize a final presentation and submit a report to UNFPA CO reflecting the experience, knowledge acquired and results achieved as a result of the fellowship.
