Gbv Specialist

Akkar Network for Development (AND) has been working in Akkar for the last years with women, youth and local authorities to promote the well-being of the community. In addition to other interventions in the area, AND is currently working on combating violence against women and children, women and youth empowerment e,g. vocational training…  AND is currently running mobile and static safe women spaces that provides holistic services focusing on psychosocial support, violence prevention, livelihoods strengthening and social cohesion to diverse vulnerable populations affected by the Syrian refugee crisis, including women and girls, and survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), torture and trauma. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The GBV specialist will be based in Akkar and will be responsible for contributing to the timely and quality implementation of activities, deliver continuous technical coaching, perform monitoring and evaluation of the quality of GBV related work at AND, and capacity building for case managers and frontline staff in Akkar on GBV response and prevention. The GBV officer will serve as the focal point for AND for coordinating all activities. Other responsibilities involve assisting in the technical oversight of all management components of the project, including, but not limited to:   Duties and Responsibilities: ·         In partnership with key program staff, coordinate with partners and appropriate experts for project planning related to the continued delivery of the full Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) response and prevention package in 3 centers in Akkar ( Halba, Hissa and Hrar) targeted towards Government, civil society actors, caregivers, community members, at risk individuals, and children. ·         Coordinate with NGO partners regarding training and implementation of the project, including support for implementation of training and technical assistance efforts; ·         Provide technical support, supervision, and guidance to the program team ( including development of technical tools and guidance, tailored capacity building plans, trainings, and on the job coaching) ·         Further build the organizational and technical capacity of AND staff to be able to continue providing high quality services to SGBV survivor women and girls or at risk of SGBV both in-center and in the community, thus ensuring full compliance with general protection, child protection and GBV best practices, along with professional standards. ·         Assist with general GBV program operations and field-based activity, including on-site visits and support, drafting policies, along with inclusion of protection component in other areas of intervention.  o    Supervise activities in the safe spaces in collaboration with key program staff, including provision of technical support for the social workers, outreach workers, frontliners… o    Work across different contexts, including local communities, informal settlements, SDCs, with a particular focus on outreach work and support ·         Provide technical GBV support to the team in the timely completion of all reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, final and any other required, ensuring reports are of an acceptable standard; o    Oversee production of external reports on protection themes o    Help developing the program filing system for all activities and ensure that information is organized accordingly to the reporting and auditing needs of the program. Ensure required levels of confidentiality ·         Producing a practical guide for the front liners and social workers compiling the different tools to be used Coordinate with AND media regarding implementation of media components of the project; ·         Assist in the coordination of community-based education and media advocacy campaigns.  o    in the field targeting both women and adolescent girls, with tips and recommendations. Support key program staff to ensure that activities run effectively and make best use of project resources. o    Perform any other relevant duties.  Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: o    At least 3 years experience working on issues related to gender based violence or trauma rehabilitation;  o    A degree in social work or public health is a strongly desired o    Thorough experience implementing GBV and child protection programs o    Experience in capacity building and providing direct technical support to staff o    Thorough understanding of GBVIMS and child protection information management systems and protection information o    Fluency in Arabic and English for conversation, note taking and reporting. Resilience:  This project will address some very difficult and sensitive social issues.  Interested applicants should have a strong commitment to addressing women’s rights with cultural sensitivity, respect, and confidentiality. Moreover, flexibility, a sense of humor and willingness to challenge social norms is a plus.  Education degree: Masters Degree Field of education: Social work, health, social sciences or Law; or other related fields.
