Screening Social Worker

Makhzoumi Foundation is a private Lebanese non-profit organization, established in 1997. Our ultimate mission is to empower Lebanese citizens - through improving their socioeconomic status, healthcare provisions, and environmental awareness, and by encouraging their quest for education - thereby enabling them to independently develop and progress their local communities, and to subsequently enhance the country’s civil society on a national scale. Currently, the Makhzoumi Foundation Relief and Humanitarian Services Unit (MFRHSU) is implementing partner with UNHCR to deliver emergency and recovery projects in Hygiene, Shelter, and Protection, case management, Health and Livelihood Recovery sectors. Makhzoumi Foundation is currently implementing projects in all these sectors in support of those within Lebanon affected by the Syrian crisis, as well as other non-Syrian refugees. Job Overview: MFRHSU is seeking recruitment of a Reception Social Worker, who will be required to work with vulnerable refugees with a range of different needs including mental health concerns, disability, medical issues, housing needs, financial vulnerability, older persons, specific legal or protection issues or experience of torture, among others. The Reception Social Worker will be the first person the beneficiaries meet when they access the Reception Centre. Therefore, the Reception Social Worker will need to be able to identify the key issues and orient the beneficiaries to the right direction. The social worker will perform a variety of tasks and duties with the objective of finding the best solution with and achieving the best outcome for beneficiaries. Showing politeness and a friendly attitude will be required at all times. The Social worker will need to have a sensitive, responsive and professional approach to working with individual beneficiaries to reduce stigma associated with any of these individual vulnerabilities and the general vulnerability of being a refugee who is experiencing displacement and associated stress as a result of leaving their country of origin. The Reception Social Worker will provide information on services and assistance and refer cases with heightened risk to UNHCR teams.   General duties and responsibilities: To support and offer guidance to beneficiaries who approach the UNHCR Reception Centre and to appropriately handle their questions and requests. To screen/identify the beneficiaries’ key issues, provide orientation and direct them to the right service. To provide information to beneficiaries on services and assistance available and to ensure information is accurate and up-to-date. To collaborate closely with UNHCR staff at the Reception Centre by coordinating their activities and daily tasks. To refer cases to the relevant UNHCR team. Advocate with different institutions and services providers to help beneficiaries to access needed resources and services. In collaboration with UNHCR, ensure coordination with other service providers in the area of intervention for prompt referral, follow up and information sharing. Manage, fill, archive specific forms for cases profiling, referral and daily/weekly reporting ensuring confidentiality, accuracy and timeliness. Monitor and follow up the outcome of the assistance provided. Work with UNHCR staff to ensure a high quality response to all beneficiaries attending the premises. Be available to provide basic emotional support for urgent cases. Ensuring confidentiality, anti-discriminatory practices, respect professional boundaries and avoiding conflicts of interests. Accomplish any other assignments allocated by UNHCR and Makhzoumi’s Social Work Team Leader.  Support the organization during specific events or activities inside or outside of the centre.  Key Working Relationships: Position Reports to: Social Work Team Leader/Senior Social Worker Indirect Reporting: Protection Coordinator/Unit Manager Other Internal and/or external contacts: Internal: other members of the team and UNHCR   External: local partner   Monitoring and Reporting: Provide daily and weekly updates to UNHCR on cases screened and referred. Support UNHCR in the production of daily/weekly reports.     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of Protection concerns including Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Child protection and Person with Special Needs issues (PWSN). Excellent knowledge of the refugee situation in Lebanon. Excellent interpersonal skills. Good computer skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel…). Well-developed organizational and planning skills. Native Arabic speaker and fluent in English. Excellent reporting skills. Dynamic, welcoming, friendly personality and ability to work under pressure. Education & Experience: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Social work, Counselling, Psychology or other related field. 1 year of experience in social work related to case management in particular in humanitarian crisis essential. Experience working with refugee population preferred.
