Team Leader

Organization Overview :        Since its creation in 1960, the mission of Terre des hommes (Tdh) has been to come to the aid of children in need. It endeavors at all times to defend the rights of children, in times of war and natural disasters, or in less publicized situations of distress. Today, Terre des hommes Foundation is a significant force among children’s aid organizations in Switzerland and throughout the world. Tdh has development projects and emergency relief programs in more than 30 countries in two core areas: healthcare and child protection. Every year, Tdh offers sustainable solutions and a better future for over one million children and their relatives Job description: The team leader coordinates all the activities of the projects currently in his/her area of responsibility as allocated by the line manager and Program Coordinator. Strategy and policy: Contribute to the institution's strategic thinking in his/her area of specialisation Collaborate in drawing up operational strategies and policies for his/her sector of activity Participate in the implementation of the project's policies and strategies Actively contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and review of the strategy of his/her field of intervention Skills required: Know and respect the policies and global strategies of Tdh and his/her sector Finalize and validate the strategic plan of the unit/sector/field with the head of department. Research and Development: Identify the best practice or lessons learned in the  activities under his/her responsibility Participate in the development of new tools in his/her field of activity  Skills required: Stay informed about the best practices in his/her sector of activity Identify innovations Transform innovations into best practices Personnel  management / team management: Lead, advise, support and supervise the members of the project team allocated to his/her responsibility and mainly but not just social workers. Facilitate good communication within the teams under his/her responsibility and other teams Create conditions for a good flow of operational information from delegation – field - delegation (verbal exchanges, e-mails, sitreps, reports, etc.) Organise, coordinate and supervise the work of the team assigned to his/her area, monitor the work plans Ensure the weekly development of his/her team weekly plans to be valdiated by the program manager assistant.  Participate in the training of new staff (listen, support, motivate, involve, train, take disciplinary action against them, ensure they are updated and their skills are developed) In collaboration with the Program manager assistant, periodically support in the appraisal of his/her immediate staff. Plan and monitor the absence/attendance of the members of his/her team and report to the program manager assistant possible misconduct Ensure the program team works well together (resolve existing or potential conflicts) Develop the team members' self-reliance and encourage collaboration Skills required: Handles him/herself Learn about the activities of Tdh and specific in his/her sector, informs about his/her own activities Teamwork Manage one or more teams (motivate, lead, communicate, manage, decide, anticipate and give direction and meaning) Skills development: Be responsible for his/her own continuing training to develop his/her skills Identify the training needs of the team under his/her direct responsibility and coordinate with Tdh Training Department and his/her supervisor. Support and advise the operational team under his/her responsibility  Skills required: Self-assess his/her own skills Exercises an advisory role related to his/her field of specialization Assess the needs of skills development Design and provides activities aimed at developing skills Budget (EN) Know and comply with the budgetary framework of his/her activities in close coordination and under supervision of the Program manager assistant. Share with the Program manager assistant useful information for drawing up the budget  Skills required: Monitors the budget. Administration / logistics and recovery services: Attend to the administrative matters in his/her field Define the weekly schedule of activities and validate it with the Program manager assistant Carry out all the procedures connected with the accomplishment of the planned activities (administrative and logistical) Keep the project beneficiaries' files up-to-date Respect and ensure compliance with regulations and administrative and logistical procedures Check that the communication procedures are followed and that employees are achievable at all times Ensure proper use of equipment and other material resources available to the project Submit purchase requests to the Program manager assistant according to procedure and authorization level  Skills required: Perform the administrative or logistical activities related to his/her field of activity Ensure the proper implementation and monitoring of the administration/ logistical business in his/ her fields of activities Advocacy - Representation - Networking: In general, make sure that a positive and professional image of the Foundation is conveyed. In particular, ensure that the Foundation's mandate, ethics, values and views are followed in relation to third parties. Information / Publications / Communication / Reporting (EN) Participate in media and publishing activities, at the request of the line manager Report regularly to the line manager on his/her field of activity. Skills required: Master languages for effective communication in his/her field Writes reports. Plan and control the implementation of reporting Project Cycle Management Assist M&E with evaluations/surveys Values: In his/her professional activities, adhere to the values defined in the strategic plan: commitment, expertise, integrity and self-reliance Undertake to comply with the Tdh Good Governance Policy and behave in an exemplary manner with regard to the various resources and logistics available to him/her for accomplishing his/her activities Work in different cultural backgrounds and in difficult situations, deal with confrontation due to differences (intercultural) Abuse Prevention Policy (CPP) - Operational Risk Management: Undertake to adhere to the Terre des hommes Child Protection Policy and the principles connected to children's rights Undertake to ensure the best possible implementation of the Child Protection Policy (CPP) and operational risk management in his/her intervention zone and within project teams (in the case of an identified problem, contact the Programme Management and/or Country Delegate to report it) Undertake to always inform the Coordinator (or the CPP Committee) of new developments in relation to all cases, allegations or possible/potential violations of the Child Protection Policy Assist in the implementation of resources for promoting awareness and supervision necessary for his/her local colleagues to adhere to the Child Protection Policy (CPP) and operational risk management Participate in monitoring protection cases, allegations or possible/potential violations of the Child Protection Policy under the supervision of the national CPP focal point and Head of Delegation Report to Security Coordinator and Program manager assistant any security issue that may come up Contribute to updating the security plan on his/her area(s) of intervention Check that the members of staff in his team are in fact following safety procedures Check that communication procedures are being followed and that staff can be reached at all times Be available to carry out any other tasks deemed useful by his/her direct manager Needed Skills: Previous experience and educational background in case management/social work Previous experience in a management position (team leader position) Previous experience in humanitarian sector Good arabic (written, spoken) and good english (written and spoken) needed Knowledge of Microsoft Office (excel, word, PP etc)
