Trainer - Agriculture

Under the project ‘Improved livelihoods for small-scale farmers in Akkar, North Lebanon’, funded by the European Union and implemented by Mada Association. The objective of the action is to improve the livelihoods of small scale farmers mainly in three villages of Upper Akkar and surrounding through training sessions on sustainable, cost-efficient agricultural practices, the introduction of drip-irrigation systems, and improved access to markets. An accelerated vocational training on ‘Best pruning practices of apple trees’ will take place in Upper Akkar. The total number of trainees will be around 9-10. Objectives -          Increase the knowledge, skills, and capacities on sustainable, best pruning practices of around 15 trainees. -          Increase the awareness of around 15 trainees on the importance of best pruning practices. -          Encourage around 15 trainees to apply the pruning techniques in their fields, and create a pruning experts. The Trainer will meet the following requirements Education: Master Degree or PhD in Agriculture Engineering, with a background on sustainable pruning practices. Years of experience: 10 years or more. Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic; French and/or English as second language Other: Experience in working with and training of small-scale farmers; excellent communication skills; ability to travel to a remote area; experience in developing innovative training material. Tasks and Responsibilities Task 1: To design and prepare the curriculum material including the following topics: -          General physiology of apple trees. -          The importance of pruning and the role of crossing regulators. -          Types of Pruning. -          Fructification Pruning. -          Time of Pruning. Task 2: To submit a relevant and clear training material as soft copy, adapted to a language suitable for the trainees. Task 3: To send a detailed timeline (Annex 3), presenting the following: -          Number of theoretical sessions, -          Number of practical sessions, -          Management courses, -          Evaluation. Task 4: To conduct 16 days (Theoretical and practical sessions) on ‘Best Pruning Practices’, according to a work plan submitted by the expert. To fill table of Annex 3. Task 5: To prepare and supervise an evaluation (Theoretical and practical) for the trainees. Task 6: To prepare a final report including: -          Summary of workflow training, -          Final results of the evaluation, -          Recommendations
