NRC is looking for highly experienced and dedicated Media and Advocacy Technical Officer for our programme in Lebanon.
This position targets a dynamic and innovative candidate with minimum 3 years of experience in advocacy, journalism, and/or communications
The Media and Advocacy Technical Officer will work closely with, and under the supervision of, the Advocacy and Information Adviser and will be expected to work independently without needing daily supervision and instruction, and deliver according to clearly set-out objectives in order to fulfill strategic advocacy and programme goals.
NRC Lebanon expects the Media and Advocacy Technical Officer to be able to quickly get an overview of NRC Lebanon’s advocacy and programmes and immediately begin delivering high quality communication materials for public information and media purposes.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
Promote NRC Lebanon in Lebanese and international media for advocacy and programme purposes including through maintaining a network of journalists in Lebanon and the region who report on humanitarian issues.
Policy and governmental analysis, including drafting briefing notes and key messages.
Participation in relevant NRC regional and international coordination calls.
Draft human interest stories, press releases and other media updates in English and Arabic.
Regularly coordinate the production of NRC visibility items such as calendars, brochures and posters.
Support field teams with the preparation for external visits to NRC field activities by media, donors and others, ensuring NRC’s media guidelines and policies are observed.
Specific responsibilities
Support field-based media focal points in the development of photography, storytelling, and case study production skills.
On a rotating basis with colleagues, scan international and Arabic media for stories relevant to refugee and humanitarian issues in Lebanon, summarising and sharing these with the NRC Lebanon team is key.
Help to establish advocacy and influencing priorities for NRC Lebanon in conjunction with the Advocacy and Information Advisor.
Help to identify and develop engagement with local advocacy networks in Lebanon, including in the Syrian and Palestinian refugee communities.
Participation in relevant inter-agency working groups.
Help to establish a media network and continuously update NRC’s media contact list for Lebanese and international media.
Produce and regularly update a variety of NRC programme visibility materials in English and in Arabic for Lebanese and international audiences, including internal newsletters and factsheets.
Implement and manage a picture database of NRC programme activities, including the collection of photo documentation of NRC’s activities, in line with NRC Lebanon’s media guidelines.
Liaise with photographers, designers and printing presses.

Competencies
Professional competencies
Higher relevant university degree in journalism, media, communications, or relevant experience.
A minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a similar position.
Only candidates with a proven advocacy, journalism, and/or communications background will be considered.
Proven experience with communication within the humanitarian sector will be a plus.
Commitment to humanitarian principles and dedication to humanitarian work.
Flexibility including ability to work overtime on weekends and evenings according to need and requests. This will include regular travel within Lebanon to field sites during the week.
Ability to work independently (proactively and reactively) and with limited daily support and supervision but towards the fulfillment of objectives and deliverables as agreed with the supervisor. Clear deliverables within the probation period will be agreed.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Knowledge of Lebanese and regional government structures.
Experience with the NGO and donor sectors, specifically as they pertain to refugee issues, is highly desirable.
Ability to multitask and deliver a wide range of tasks, often within short deadlines.
A good team player.
Basic photography, video and social media skills are highly desirable.
Graphic design and video editing skills desirable, but not essential.
Excellent English and Arabic, oral and written (sound journalistic writing style).
