Project Title: “Resilient Communities: Supporting Livelihoods, Education and Social Stability” referred to as “Forsa
Project Summary:
Within the framework of Search for Common Ground (SFCG) response to the needs of Syrian refugees and their host communities in Lebanon, FORSA’s objective is to ensure a coherent approach to the Syrian crisis by empowering refugee and host population youth with livelihood and education opportunities in parallel with social stability and psychosocial support initiatives. The project will target 5 communities in Akkar and 5 communities in West Bekaa for a 12 month period. Most of the project activities will take place at one community center in each of the two regions which will serve as a central hub for all youth participants.
SFCG is looking for artists to work in Akkar and West Bekaa to help in the implementation of arts-based social cohesion and capacity building activities for Syrian and Lebanese youth.Through arts-based activities, young participants will develop empathy and learn effective communication skills to seek collaborative means of addressing conflict. Artists will be responsible for designing and implementing a series of arts workshops, and a summer camp culminating in an exhibition of the art work at the end of the project.
SFCG is seeking to recruit a drawing trainer having previous experience in training, engaging with youth and working with international/local NGOs.
Main tasks:
In coordination with the Project Coordinator, he/she will be responsible to:
Submit a detailed work plan for 20 workshops (ten per region);
Coordinate with the field officer based in Akkar and West Bekaa as well as with SFCG on the logistics and organization of the workshops;
Conduct 20 workshops (10 per region) for 120 youth participants for a period of 12 months;
Engage in the design and implementation of four 5 day summer camps (2 per region, each hosting 75 youth);
Draft and submit a pre-test and a post-evaluation test by the participants before and after the activities;
Submit monthly progress reports and the final report to SFCG Project Coordinator;
Participate effectively in the organization of the two final events where the art work will be presented;
rovide insights on the dynamics between Syrian and Lebanese youth participants and flag any urgent issues.
The artist should aim to
§ Be punctual and expect punctuality from the participants;
§ Keep in mind the objectives of the project, focusing more on the process rather than the final product;
§ Show flexibility and personal commitment;
§ Maintain transparent communication at all times with SFCG and partners in order to tackle challenges together and reach a common understanding (regarding participants, logistics, etc.);
§ Inform SFCG and partners of any issues that may be directly encountered or witnessed in order to ensure any issues are dealt with as soon as possible.
Other requirements:
§ Demonstrated training experience and experience in working with youth from different backgrounds;
§ Familiarity with the practice of an arts approach to peacebuilding and the Lebanese context;
§ Geographical knowledge of and easy access to Akkar and West Bekaa;
§ Good problem solving techniques;
§ Very good communication skills;
§ Good analytical skills
§ Willingness and ability to be flexible;
§ Be rigorous, precise, calm and polite; and
§ Excellent inter personnel skills and team spirit.
