Data Manager (Consultant)

  1.                   MAIN GOALS OF THE POSITION   The data manager assists the coordinator of the study in the collection and the management of the data. He/she is in charge of the communication related to the study   2.                  FONDATION MERIEUX ACTIVITIES :   Established in 1967 by Doctor Charles Mérieux, Fondation Mérieux is an independent family foundation and is a recognized state-approved charity. It fights against the infectious diseases that affect developing countries and is currently present in about fifteen countries (mainly in West Africa and South-East Asia, China, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Haiti, Brazil). It offers a specific model based on a long history of expertise in clinical biology and a comprehensive approach to public health issues. The mission of Fondation Mérieux is to contribute to global health by strengthening the local capacities of developing countries to reduce the impact of infectious diseases on vulnerable populations.Fondation Mérieux is launching  a study  on community  acquired  pneumonia  (CAP), the  most  common  reason  for seeking  ambulatory  or  in-patient  health  care. The etiology of CAP in children and adults in humanitarian crises is unknown.  Guidelines on prevention and control in crisis-affected areas are no built on strong evidence.  The study will be accessing the prevalence   and   causal   contribution   of   pathogenic   microorganisms   in   the respiratory tract of children and adults during a humanitarian crisis. This will in the end provide   the   evidence-base   for   epidemiological   risk   assessments, public   health interventions and treatment algorithms for this leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the context of a humanitarian crisis.    3.                  ORVERVIEW OF THE POSITION   The data manager is located in Beirut. He is willing and able to travel through Lebanese territories.   4.                  MAIN RESPONSABILITIES   Data Collection: Receive case report forms, screening forms, and lab data from a clinical study Perform data entry of case report forms and screening forms Organize and improve logistics of data flow Data Management: Set up data entry masks Merge databases, evaluate the consistency of data received, identify and delete duplicates Measure the progression of the study Organize data backup Ensure data security Communication: Liaise with study coordinators. Communicate implementation problems and progression of the study. Liaise with health facilities (study nurses, doctors) and laboratories involved in the study. Communicate feedback about problems identified and progression of the study. Work in team with assistants, drivers, local focal points, local investigators, study monitor, study coordinator, study PI for project implementation.   TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS Theoretical knowledge of data management (software(s), database formats, creation of variables, merging databases, identify inconsistencies, data cleaning). Working experience in data management is an asset. Knowledge of ≥1 data entry software (Filemaker, Access, Epi Info…) or willingness to learn Experience in data analysis or willingness to learn Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Experience in project management is an asset Able to take initiative for improvement of data flow and data management system Able to understand the protocol of a clinical study and its requirements in terms of data management Good knowledge of spoken and written Arabic and English. French is an asset.
