Syria Program Adviser

 SFCG is seeking a Syria Program Adviser to provide expert advice during the implementation of two projects that aim to strengthen the capacities of Syrian civil society actors operating inside Syria. The Syria Program Adviser will work closely with project implementation, analysis, and program development teams to inform decision-making for current and future projects. This will include leading the strategic planning process, establishing the necessary relationships with local and international stakeholders, assisting in research, and providing guidance on context, security and logistics. Responsibilities Work closely with Senior Projects Manager and project’s teams to provide strategic   direction for current projects. Liaise with Monitoring and Evaluation team and Syria Analysts to support all research conducted on Syria, including facilitating access to relevant stakeholders. Advise program staff on the changing political and security context inside Syria, and the potential impact of regional and international developments on program activities. Foster and maintain communication with regional experts, conflict resolution practitioners and leaders of civil society organisations operating on and in Syria. Contribute to meeting reports and donor communications. Work closely with Programme Director and Country Director to fundraise for programming in Syria and contribute to strategic planning for future SFCG intervention in Syria. Travel in the region as required to support the implementation of program activities. Present oneself as a representative of SFCG, embodying Common Ground principles. The Adviser may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties. Requirements and Qualifications Minimum of six (6) years of experience, and a minimum of three (3) years working on Syria projects. Extensive knowledge of the Syrian conflict and regional dynamics. Previous experience working with (Syrian) civil society and in peacebuilding projects. Familiar with donor guidelines for implementation of projects in Syria, and procedures to ensure project compliance. Previous experience in conflict transformation, mediation, NVC, leadership, dialogue facilitation and/or related fields. Skills Excellent diplomatic and networking skills. Ability to treat sensitive information confidentially. Demonstrated writing and analytical skills. Spoken and written fluency in English.  Fluency in Arabic an asset. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability. Proven organizational and management skills, and attention to detail. Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various partners. Demonstrated financial management and program administration experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Dynamic leader with creative problem solving skills, particularly in challenging situations. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
