Water Quality Officer-Two Candidates

OBJECTIVES: The main purpose of the position under the direction of the WASH Manager is to ensure the quality of water supplied to informal settlements, and other types of housing units, inhabited by refugees, within the programme of implementation. Monitor and control all water analysis activities, train the field team on the use of water testing kits in the Laboratory and undertake sanitary inspection of water points and water sampling, ensure systematic and regular water analysis and manage all chemical and microbiological results MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Use and maintenance of water quality equipment, materials, kits and consumables necessary for water analysis. Ensure hygienic conditions are guarantee during analysis. Ensure regular follow-up of consumables and prepare an inventory of all water analysis equipment. Train field staff on use of water testing kits and on how to undertake sanitary inspection of water sources Train field staff on water sampling at the different water point’s levels (wells, boreholes, tanks, taps and household storages etc...) Design and implement a water quality-monitoring plan in coordination with the WASH Programme Manager Conduct systematic surveys, collect water samples and carry out water quality analysis (bacteriological if needed with DelAgua Kit). Monitor quality of water regularly in all rehabilitated/maintained or newly constructed water points (boreholes, wells, tanks, taps, HH storages etc.) and accordingly, maintain a database for water quality results. Develop tools and ensure sanitary inspection of water sources; and analyses data and take necessary measures where needed Ensure project documents are properly filed and kept secure Knowledgeable of water quality standards and testing procedures Provide samples of drinking water at source and point of consumption Analyse results of tests as per procedures and against agreed standards Document results of testing and refer abnormalities to WASH Programme Manager Work with Social Worker to trace sources of disease or contaminations in order to prevent further outbreaks Any other task not here listed and necessary to the projects and activities The water quality officer GVC representative, and at all times is responsible for representing GVC appropriately to the community. REPORTING Prepare weekly, monthly work plans and progress reports; including all results gathered from the analysis
