JOB PROFILE
JOB TITLE: Psychosocial Social Worker (2)- Immediate Start
LOCATION: North (Akkar) and South (Bint Jbeil)
ABAAD PURPOSE:
ABAAD aims at achieving gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD has a proven record in working in addressing GBV in emergency settings. “Ending Gender-Based Violence: towards standardization and strengthening quality of services and direct response” is an initiative aiming at reducing the risks of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through women, boys and girls empowerment and improving the quality of multi-sectorial assistance for women and girls survivors or at risk of GBV among the host and Syrian refugee population.
BACKGROUND:
In order to increase vulnerable women and girls’ (from all nationalities) access to prevention and response services, ABAAD is setting up safe spaces for women and girls in various locations in Mount Lebanon, Northern, South, and Bekaa Governorates. The Community Outreach Mobilizer position is a key position in ABAAD’s Women and Girls Safe Spaces program, ensuring that an appropriate prevention strategy is implemented involving women and girls as well as the community through awareness raising, establishment of community based groups, and community safety mapping and activities through centre based and mobile outreach.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Psychosocial Social Worker is responsible for working within the Women and Girls Safe Space, tailoring the activities pertaining to psychosocial support (group activities such as info sessions, awareness session, emotional support groups, life-skills, art/drama therapy, adolescent girls targeted activities. The PSW is accountable for all the coordination to ensure that selected activities answer to the local population’s needs.
REPORTING LINES: Post holder reports to: WGSS Coordinator and Program Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Designing special programs related to psychosocial activities
- Assess the community needs for proper activities planning in the safe spaces
- Maintain regular contact with GBV Case Worker and WGSS Coordinator to asses needs
- Coordinate with the WGSS Coordinator for advising on relative activities
II. Psychosocial Activities
- Collaborate closely with other staff to organize psychosocial activities in the Women and Girls Safe Space
- Asses communities with psychosocial needs and make recommendations for the provision of psychosocial activities
- Design and roll-out weekly psycho-social activities inside the Women and Girls Safe Space
- Recommend the initiation of age appropriate and psychosocial activities for women and adolescent girls
- Liaise with consultants for organization of group psycho-social activities (such as art therapy, music therapy, mother and child activities…etc)
III. Coordination:
- Participate in weekly internal meetings with WGSS Coordinator and GBV Case Worker
- Gather feedback at the community level regarding ABAAD safe spaces program and share information with supervisor
IV. Reporting to Program Prevention Officer
- Work closely with WGSS Coordinator on all issues related to psychosocial programs and activities to be conducted
- Write monthly reports pertaining to the activities being implemented.
V. Other:
- Respect for ABAAD Code of Conduct and its PSEA Policy
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Degree in social work/ Psychosocial or related field
- Knowledge of GBV prevention and response
- Ability to design special programs related to Psychosocial activities
- Experience working directly with refugees and other groups
- Experience working directly with women and girls
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to human rights, gender equality, non-discrimination
- Flexible pro-active attitude
- Ability to work well as an individual and in a team
- Ability to manage an unpredictable workload in a challenging environment
- Ability to work across socio-cultural and religious contexts
- Belief in ABAAD’s mission and vision
- Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic, clear and concise reporting in English is strongly preferred. French is a plus
- Experience in managing and training community volunteers
- Must be computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
